Explain Why Did Christopher Columbus Call Hispaniola
Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1492 and decided to call it Hispaniola. Santo Domingo was founded in 1498 Bartholomew Columbus, six years after his brother. had landed there. As a matter of fact, Santo Domingo was the third settlement on the island of Hispaniola. The first was Navidad, where about forty of Christopher Columbus’ sailors were left behind after one of the ships sank on his first voyage. Navidad was later destroyed by the unpleased indigenous Taino Indians. The settlement of Isabela was founded following Columbus’ second voyage. The environment at Isabela was not conducive to a successful and productive settlement, therefore Bartholomew Columbus decided to relocate the settlers to present-day Santo Domingo.

According to history.com, Puerto Rico was known as San Juan Bautista back then. Juan Ponce De León was given permission from Spain to explore the island of San Juan Bautista in 1508 to 1509. Juan Ponce De León might of explored the island before, its not known yet. Juan Ponce De León was named governor of Puerto Rico. When encouraged by the Spanish Crown, Juan Ponce, followed rumors that were spread by the Indians of the island. They spoke about an island known as “Bimini”. This island apparently had a fountain that granted youth to those who drank from it. As Juan Ponce De León was attempting to discover the mysterious island of Bimini and other lands and gold, he landed on the coast of what today is now known as ,Florida. He landed near the site of Modern Day St.Augustine. He named the land he landed on Florida because of the land’s lush and florid vegetation, according to History.com. He landed on Florida around Easter or Pascua which is translated to Florida in Spanish, that could have been another reason why he named it “Florida”. After discovering and exploring the land of Florida he traveled back to Puerto Rico where he went back to Spain from. He was named the military governor of both Bimini and Florida. He was also granted the permission to colonize the…

In the first decade of 1500, Juan Ponce de Leon built settlements in Hispaniola (Modern day Haiti and Dominican Republic), started farms, and constructed defenses in hopes of establishing an island colony for Spain. On his journey he did many things. Historical encounters with the Caribbean people on Puerto Rico are vague, but it seems there was series of military engagements with no clear outcome. After helping suppress a native Caribbean uprising on Hispaniola, in 1504 Ponce de Leon was granted provincial governor of the eastern part of the country,…

Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. He sailed in three ships to where he thought at the time was India. He ended up landing in the Caribbean, in what is now Haiti. While landing upon the New World, Columbus and his men found that there was a whole civilization among them. On one of the islands that he found there were what Columbus stated as “great and beautiful mountains, vast fields, groves, fertile plants, very suitable for planting and cultivating, and for building the houses.”…

“This time he had an army with him, seventeen vessels and approximately fifteen hundred men.” Christopher Columbus would again sail west, looking to further chart and plot what he believed were islands off the coast of China. Upon returning to the settlement he left on Hispaniola, Columbus found the settlement was destroyed, and the men he left there were dead, this infuriated Columbus. Columbus ordered his men to capture the indigenous people, and force them into labor. He would use his new found labor force to build a new settlement approximately seventy miles away, which he would name Isabella, only to move the settlement one more time, this time calling it Santa Domingo.…

Schultz ”Columbus and his crew sighted land in the present-day Bahamas. As we seen source one it does not give the complete information of where Columbus exactly landed, but it does describe what they saw for example “the crew of the Pinta saw a cane and a log, The crew of the Nina saw other signs of land, and a stalk loaded with rose berries”. This helps us picture how it looked when Columbus arrived to the Bahamas. Equally important is HIST4 stated “ Columbus returned to Spain shortly thereafter, bringing some treasures and, more importantly, tales of the possible riches via the western route”. HIST4 only informs us that Columbus brought information to the Spanish, but it does not elucidate as primary source two does. According to Christopher Columbus, letter to “Luis de Santangel” (1493) “the people of this island, and all of the others that I have found and seen, or not seen, all go naked men and women” here we learned that the Indians were ignorant, they did not know the importance of…

However, there is a point in the graph that slightly deviates above the line of best fit. This may be because of some water leaving from the 3-neck round bottom flask as steam, when different volumes of salicylic acid solution were being pipetted out. This increased the concentration of salicylic acid in that flask, and the value of A obtained would thus be slightly higher than expected.…

In ecology, predation describes a biological interactions[->0] where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked). Predators may or may not kill their prey prior to feeding[->1] on them, but the act of predation always results in the death of its prey and the eventual absorption of the prey's tissue through consumption.[2] Other categories of consumption[->2] are herbivory[->3] (eating parts of plants) and detritivory[->4], the consumption of dead organic material (detritus[->5]). All these consumption categories fall under the rubric of consumer-resource systems[->6].[3] It can often be difficult to separate our various types of feeding behaviors[->7]. For example, parasitic species prey on a host organism and then lay their eggs on it for their offspring to feed on it while it continues to live or on its decaying corpse after it has died. The key characteristic of predation however is the predator's direct impact on the prey population. On the other hand, detritivores simply eat dead organic material arising from the decay of dead individuals and have no direct impact on the "donor" organism(s).…
