My father lost his job when I was seven years old, in turn he went into business for himself. Missed job opportunities and not being paid for contracted work are challenges of going into a business without a network of mutual support. Larger Contractors have the cash flow available to drag things out over multiple years. However, smaller contractors do not have this luxury. My whole high school career, I was a co-captain for the football team. This experience showed me how to work together as a team, also showing me when and how to take control of many situations. I also was a part of the Junior Advisory in 11th grade where I was the group leader in charge of the design and set up for senior prom. This helped to show me how to contribute my ideas while including everyone on the team's ideas as well. I plan to continue leadership roles the next four years and more importantly after college. This year, I have been volunteering coaching my sister's eight-year old softball team, which is a major leadership role. It has taught me how to positively encourage them to do better and I enjoy seeing the kids improve throughout the year. I also believe that my education will help me make a difference.
