Eassy For National Honor Society
When I was in first grade, my father was deployed to Iraq. My whole world changed. We moved to Utah to live with my grandparents while my mother was pregnant. It took forever for my dad to return from war. I missed him so much, especially during the holidays. When my dad came back to the States, I thought that things would be better and that our family would be whole again. Two years later, my parents got divorced. My dad was suffering from PTSD and fell into addiction. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression while my mother was trying her best to raise us on her own and earn her master's degree. I felt that my whole life was falling apart in front of me. These struggles have made me who I am. I have learned to be more compassionate towards …show more content…
As captain on the varsity cheerleading squad for two years, I have developed leadership qualities and can recognize the needs of others. I have also been involved in my school's choral program as a member of show and varsity choirs. These commitments taught me the importance of time management and dedication by being able to maintain a high GPA, leading to induction into National Honors Society. As a member, I am given the opportunity to serve in my community. Serving others is not a new concept for me. I am involved in my church's youth group, cheerleading, and as a volunteer for a nursing home. I enjoy helping others and the opportunity to serve. I plan to continue my level of school pride at UVU. School pride is more than wearing a t shirt, it is everyday living and passion to help …show more content…
I needed to help others to become involved in their school. I enjoyed attending games and other activities. This showed me that school pride was more than wearing your school colors. I was a Falcon! People knew who I was and expected me to act a certain way. Later, I was given the leadership role of cheer co captain my junior year and captain my senior year. This allowed me to develop leadership qualities. I not only was responsible for making sure my squad had information about games, but I was a person they could trust. I was the only four year cheer leader on the squad. I had the knowledge of the program and understood what it felt like to be an underclassman. These unique experience have allowed me to learn compassion. When you have compassion you build life long

A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

There are many accomplishments in my life of which I am proud, however there are two for which I am especially proud. Those being, having the opportunity to play varsity shortstop in high school, and having good enough grades to be nominated for, and to be admitted into, the National Honor Society. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…

National Honor Society membership is among the highest honors a high school student can achieve, and I am deeply honored to have been considered as a future chapter participant. The program stands for more than academic achievement; scholarship, service, leadership, and character must hold equal weight in the foundation of an Honor Society member. I am confident that my abilities and merit embrace the standards of such a student. I have continually strived for academic excellence with the knowledge that I will only benefit from upholding a strict expectation of myself; moreover, I carry the same attitude towards my animal breeding and showing programs. Since the start of ninth grade, I have maintained college readiness and honor roll with my continued determination to accept nothing less than an ‘A.’ With this drive, I was able to combat my shortcomings from Summer Bridge and climb to my current placing at the top of my class with a 4.26 GPA.…

The National Honors Society is more than just a honor roll, but an organization that recognizes the efforts made by hard working high school students. I would like to join National Honors Society because it would challenge my development in both my community and my school. The National Honors Society, consisting of over one million students, would make me a part of a large community that could create many opportunities for me in the future. A highly respected organization such as the National Honors Society is very significant to me. The scholarships and programs offered by this organization helps increase my ability to get the education that I desire that I might not have been able to receive due to the rapidly rising costs of college. The beginning of my freshman year in high school changed my life. I had set many types of goals for myself this year including making friends, helping others and being a part of the most incredible organization, Blue Guards. Blue Guards is apart of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Oxon Hill High School. Blue Guards was not only a drill team, it was a family, a family of girls and boys working together, leading others, having discipline, and respecting each other as a team. Walking into the first day of school knowing I was going to be part of this team made me light up like a light bulb.…

The most significant extracurricular activity that I participate in would most likely be track and field during the indoor and outdoor seasons. I maintain a paid job and also help out at the local library, yet my experience as an athlete for Exeter High School has instilled within me invaluable time management skills, work ethic, and determination. Lettering all previous years I have competed, and being elected the team’s most valuable player last year, I work extremely hard on and off the track to achieve my goals. Balancing training with school can be difficult at times, but in a way I seem to work better having more on my plate. Receiving the scholar athlete award every consecutive season since sophomore year goes to show my greatly improved…

When my mum left my dad, I began to realise everything is not as easy as it seemed. Things where a lot harder starting at a new school, starting as the new kid and trying to make new friends. At this stage I was 9, and this is the biggest thing I’d ever done. Eventually everything settled down although the first few days were exhausting.…

One example I had to seek out was the opportunity for joint enrollment my senior year. Because I am a self-starter, it enhanced my ability to organize groups and participate with a wide range of people. Not only have I captained my cheerleading squad this year (another opportunity I had to seek out), but I have worked with several church groups and organizations such as Red Carpet Days and Wellspring; organizations that provide assistance to kids with cancer and shelter for battered women, respectively. I have organized and coached youth cheerleading teams, led youth groups, run church programs, and sought out volunteer job opportunities. I realize the effort it took to become involved in these activities. Therefore, I understand how important they are to me and it has helped me to become more mature than many of my peers, most of whom who have basically only had to try out for these same type activities.…

It was my freshman year. I was one of the smallest people in the halls, so trying to get to class was a huge struggle. I pushed my way through the sluggish upperclassman, and barely made it to my class. Next to being the "baby" in the school, my grades were slipping. I was frustrated and stressed. I had to study like I have never studied before, and my social life had completely disappeared. I had no time to hang out with my friends, and I barely even had time to go to church. As the weeks went on, I finally got a hold of myself. I pulled up my grades and learned my way around. I met new people, made new friends, and had a ton of fun! My freshman year was a success! Summer was right around the corner. The time had come for me to get my learners permit. As I stood in line, my hands were sweating and my feet was tapping. I knew the…

My first year of high school was one of the best but at the same time one of my hardest years. I remember falling in love for the first time with a boy my mom completely hated and escaping from my house at night to see him (this is the reason why my window is now sealed). It was during this time that we as a family received the news that my mom was sick. I remember how we had to unite and be strong as a family to help my mom go through those hard moments and this made my view about my family change. Thanks to this, I started to appreciate what I had.…
