My Journey Through High School
My Journey through High school. As I walked through the halls on the first day of school, I was frantically trying to get to my classes on time and alive. I was bumped, shoved, knocked down, and stepped on, but I enjoyed every minute of it. High school was so new to me, and it still is. I was very excited and nervous about my freshman year. I am sure my journey through high school will someday, be a great story to tell. It was my freshman year. I was one of the smallest people in the halls, so trying to get to class was a huge struggle. I pushed my way through the sluggish upperclassman, and barely made it to my class. Next to being the "baby" in the school, my grades were slipping. I was frustrated and stressed. I had to study like I have never studied before, and my social life had completely disappeared. I had no time to hang out with my friends, and I barely even had time to go to church. As the weeks went on, I finally got a hold of myself. I pulled up my grades and learned my way around. I met new people, made new friends, and had a ton of fun! My freshman year was a success! Summer was right around the corner. The time had come for me to get my learners permit. As I stood in line, my hands were sweating and my feet was tapping. I knew the law like the back of my hand, but I was still extremely anxious. When the test was finally over and I was waiting for the results, I couldn't sit still. The secretary announced my name, and I jumped. Once I got to the counter, she congratulated me by handing me my learners permit. Adrenaline rushed through me as I strolled through the parking lot and into the driver's seat of the car. With my mom by my side, I drove away into my sophomore year. Confidently, I walked into my second year at Mill Creek High School. I waved to my fellow sophomore friends as I glided into my first period. I was not going to let myself fall behind again. I was alert and engaged in my work. I was making straight A's and was involved in many extracurricular activities. Over the summer I had gotten a job at a local ice cream parlor. I had taken on new responsibilities and learned the about importance of money. I had matured a lot when it came to respecting my family and friends. I also had gotten my driver's license and thought I was on top of the world when I would pull into the parking lot of Mill Creek. I didn't think my life could get any better until a boy came into my life. We became very close and he eventually asked me to homecoming. We did everything together, and when it came to the homecoming night, we had a blast. That was the moment I got my first kiss. We were perfect for each other. Sadly, going into summer break, we had so many plans that we wouldn't be able to see each other much. However, we were both thrilled about going to prom together next year. Finally, I was an upperclassman. It felt good to be able to get to class without getting squished. I was starting to look at collages that I wanted to go to. My main school was the University of Georgia (UGA). I did some research and they have a great veterinary program. It is extremely hard to get into though. Luckily, I had decent grades. The time had come for me to go to my first prom. My boyfriend had taken me out to dinner when he asked me to go with him. It was so romantic. My dress was gorgeous and I was ecstatic to go. That night was perfect. The music, the night sky, the love floating in the air; it was all so perfect. There was just one problem. Next year we were going to be seniors. It was a horrible thought, the two of us splitting apart to follow our dreams. We would have to face the truth sooner or later. Senior year was a heartbreaking year for me. I was preparing myself for when I would have to say goodbye all of my friends and family. Also, my boyfriend and I would have to break up. We had decided not to try to have a long-distance relationship. But, we would always remember each other. When it finally came to graduation day, I cried. I didn't want to leave the life that I had known for so long. I wasn't ready to grow up and live on my own. Every time I would think about the real world waiting for me, I would go to my mom and beg her to let me live at home. I knew it was a ridiculous request but, it was too much for me to handle. Mr. Marcum announced my name and everyone applauded me as I received my diploma. Graduating is usually a joyful time for most teenagers, but for me it was a time to mourn. It felt like I was losing my family forever. As I said my goodbyes to my family and friends, I looked each one of them in the eye and told them I loved them. I will never forget that very moment. Everyone has a different experience in high school. That is because everyone is a different person with different interest and personalities. My experience was great at times and miserable at other times, but if I learned one thing while going through high school, it was to be yourself and never let anyone or anything change who you are.

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

Looking back to middle school I remember the fear I had for someday having to go to high school. My teachers always told me how different and harder it would be when I went. My older sister was in 9th grade at the time and I wanted ti be with her when I went. But the high school she was at was different from the one all my friends were going. I always had a hard time making decisions and now I had to choose between going to a school with my friends or going to a school that would help me prepare for the future. So I decided I would just apply to my sisters school to see if I got accepted, going into the interview I wasn't really scared because it didn't matter to me, I just thought whatever happens, happens. Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

High school is one of the biggest transitions in a person's early life. You go from being at the top in your school to the bottom. For me, it was very hard to adjust to this change. On my first day of high school, I walked into first period so nervous I thought I was going to get sick. This is much like what happened during my transition into middle school. On the first day at Mazzuchelli, right before the first class began, I threw up all over the floor of the classroom. I’m not a big fan of change. To make matters worse, the first week of high school was outrageously hot. The combination of the heat and my nerves made me sweat uncontrollably. At the time, I felt very self conscious of sweating during class. As bad as these first few days…

This was a fantastic day. The night before was thinking, “Wow, it’s actually happening. Tomorrow”. Then I woke up the next morning. On a friday! How much better could that have been. There was a football game later, classes went super quick, there was an assembly I was excited for as well. So the classes were short because of the assembly. I ended up getting picked up early. Right after 6th period. When i was headed to the gym. I got called down to the office. My mom got me and then we went straight to the DOL. It took a few minutes, I’d say around 30 minutes because they needed my waver from my drive instructor in drivers ed in to be able to give me my permit. I wasn’t able to get a picture on my permit because my mom didn’t get my actual birth certificate. But then the lady said to get behind the desk and sign everything. Then she printed it out and she handed it to me and we walked out with it and my mom handed me the keys. I got in the car and she did the mom thing and took a bunch of pictures. But in that moment I felt that feeling of growing up. I felt so trusted and I thought about all these huge privileges I had just earned.…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

Going into freshman year, I thought high school seemed like the coolest thing to have ever happened. I walked the hallways with students who were practically a head taller than I was.
