Although, the volunteer work is part of the requirements for the Honors program, it is a way of life for me. I know the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or who are simply going thru. It also teaches our children how to have a giving heart, and to always be thankful for the blessings in their…
Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…
aS little girl, one of the signs that indicated the Christmas season had begun was when I saw the Salvation Army bell ringers standing in front of the local stores. It amazed me to see how friendly they were. Often I found myself wondering such things as: did they ever get tired of smiling and ringing that bell, how do they help people and what did they do with all of the money they collected? As I have matured, I have had various opportunities to see what the Salvation Army has done within our community.…
This organization is run by social workers and crisis intervention specialists and the main office is located in Atlanta, GA about 4 hours away from me. I would be unable to volunteer for this agency.…
I would be extremely grateful to be a part of this organization to help our community. To volunteer with sisters and help or improve this community in any way possible. Community service can bring people together and help those in need of any assistance and LTA can open windows to those opportunities. I will love to have a chance to make a difference if I am able to and to be a part of a group of young women that…
I am all for helping out those less fortunate than we are, especially children. In this case we were helping children facing adversities ("Littles"), get matched with adult volunteers ("Bigs"). This way they can foster strong, enduring and professionally supported relationships to change lives for the better. Sometimes all you need is a mentor to make your life a lot more…

I am part of the National Charity League, a Mother / Daughter organization formed to do charity work throughout Fairfield County to benefit others who don’t have as much as we do. We make dinner for the Gillespie Center, babysit at Bacharach Houses, homes owned by the town to help educate women with children, and so much more. However, out of all the philanthropies that I have been a part of throughout the years, the most influential experience for me has been tutoring children at the Caroline House in Bridgeport.…
Describe how you might contribute to a lesson given to a group of seven year old children learning to play percussion instruments…
Thirty of those fifty service hours are a mandatory aspect of the junior year curriculum and must involve work with either the poor or marginalized. Personally, I chose to complete my necessary hours with the organization Outdoors for All, specifically working with the marginalized. Outdoors for All (OFA) strives to enrich the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation by offering programs just as skiing, kayaking, and biking. I participated in their downhill ski program, teaching lessons to people ranging from four to thirty-five years old with a vast array of both mental and physical disabilities. Volunteering with OFA improved not only my teaching skills but my ability to work with all people regardless of their…
Why I want to attend a Service Academy and why I feel that I am prepared to do so? I want to attend a service academy because it combines my desire to join the military, advance my education, and my desire to be the best that I can be. The academies are very prestige’s from what I gather and are ranked among the very top military colleges in the nation; that alone pecked my interest from the moment I heard of the academies. I have also wanted to be in the military from a very young age having great respect for the men and women who served in the armed forces. With these things in mind along with my desire to be the best that I can be the academies seemed like a no brainer. They have everything that I’m looking for a good education, military…
The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…
I am a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and being apart of this lifetime bond we pride ourselves in service centered on better the institution we attend and the neighboring communities. This semester my brothers and I have participated in multiple community service experiences, but what I particularly would like to speak about is a service that I am currently putting together. This service would involve my fraternity brothers and I volunteering time on Saturdays at the New Orleans YLC. What we would be specifically task with is going and spending time with kids in an underserved area; playing sports with them and just fellowshipping with them. We are having our first orientation this Wednesday February 17th. From that date on we will…
I am writing to you because I have just discovered a wonderful opportunity for an overseas experience that is bound to change my life. Cross-Cultural Solutions, a non-profit volunteer organization, offers a program that places volunteers in countries such as India, Ghana, Costa Rica, Brazil, Guatemala, Tanzania, Russia, China, Thailand, and Peru for a variety of community development projects. Cross-Cultural Solutions' mission is to operate volunteer programs around the world in partnership with sustainable community initiatives, bringing people together to work side-by-side while sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding. My placement will focus on children, who are an integral part of all societies around the world and providing adequate care for them is becoming an important part of everyday life. I will have the opportunity to teach, learn from, and care for children in an entire community. In addition to the services I can provide in child care my knowledge will enable me to speak on the importance of immunization programs, HIV/AIDS awareness, women's empowerment, etc. in Costa Rica when I return.…
