Explain Why It Is Important To Be Kept Safe When Working With Children And Young People
It is very important for any child or young person in your own care and others to be looked after at all times and kept safe in a secure, friendly environment. All children and young people should always be protected against any kind of harm against others this can be if it is accidental or they are at a risk from others this can be from either staff or other children within the setting. Parents and carers need to be able to put their trust into the individuals within the setting that are looking after and caring for their children

and feel confident in knowing their children are being looked after properly and being kept safe when not in their own care. In my setting we have policies and procedures to stick to. Within the childcare setting there are three main policies concerning this and they are Child protection, Risk assessments, and health and safety. All staff and anyone coming into the setting are CRB checked and first aid trained. …show more content…
Safeguarding children working with child protection – If you or anyone in the setting think a child or young person is being abused in anyway, neglected or at risk of any kind of harm, then it is within our responsibility to protect them and keep them safe from any harm or abuse, so that the child or young person does not suffer.     Duty of care in children or young people’s settings means to apply responsibility to ensure the safe guarding of each individual child. Any organisation or person working with the young person is considered legally and morally to owe them a duty of care. This prevents any harm caused to a child or young person.     Safeguarding children and young people is key for all professionals who work in all settings where they have contact with children, more so children who could be more vulnerable than others such as a child who struggles with a physical or mental disability. All children need to feel safe and secure and confident that they are being taught or mentored by adults they can trust and as professionals we have a duty of care to ensure children are protected while in our care. It is of the upmost importance that the correct people, whether they are full time employees or volunteers are given CRB checks. All agencies involved with children (more so, vulnerable children and young people) must take practical measures to make certain that the risk of harm to children/young people’s wellbeing is minimised. In a school these will include a child’s physical safety and security both on site and on school trips, security whilst using the internet, staff awareness and training, monitoring and record keeping and partnership and involvement with other agencies. While children are at school, practitioners act in ‘loco parentis’ while their parents are away.
