It is important to utilize development theory to explain how children grow over the course of their childhood. We have heard many different theories so to speak from our parents and grandparents as to why children behave and socialize in certain ways. These ways of thinking goes back centuries ago. In the past people thought of children as little adults. Developmental theories conducted by scientist and researchers found that this cannot be further from the truth.

They include things like behavior explanations to home remedies for illnesses. I can remember my grandmother saying “If you walk barefoot all day your feet will continue to grow”. We truly believed her and wore shoes everywhere. As I look back, we were not so much worried whether or not that was true, but were not about to fine out. This why scholarly research is so important. Most older people (grandparents) will believe something their entire life without knowing the fact. I must admit most doesn’t care whether it’s valid, at that matters was that is what their parents told them so that’s all that matter.
