Credibility is the quality of being trusted and believed in. Clinton makes it clear that she understands and is an important person covering the topic. “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Although this may not be as obvious to the audience, I relied on other ways of establishing credibility. One of these ways was in the sources I had used. I attempted to provide where I got this information from by hyperlinking or introducing my sources. For examples, in the paragraph stating that, “police officers have accounted for total of 2834 deaths to civilians since May 2013.” I provided the websites where I got the info. My long list of sources provides credibility and shows that the subject is well researched. In addition, I developed my ethos by presenting specific dates to when each victim was killed or encountered excessive force by the police. By not just stating that each victim was hurt, but rather providing specific dates and a clear explanation of each, I make sure my audience doesn’t just take my word for it.…

1. Putnam’s claim: As stated in paragraph 5, in today’s society, it’s not always necessary to stay married for the sake of the child. I agree with this statement in a sense, meaning that every situation is different. For example: two people may need to separate for the safety of the child or other spouse. People sometimes discuss divorce in an almost pious reverence because I believe that most people view marriage as a symbol of wholeness, or sacredness, and when you talk about divorce, we tend to picture half a person.…

When delivering a speech it is important to establish credibility with your audience so they know to believe everything you are telling them. Ethos is known as the perceptions of character, intelligence, and good will that belong to the listening audience. If the audience does not perceive much ethos from a speaker, than there is no established credibility. This leads to a narrow understanding of what you have said. I try to establish credibility with my audience using the ethical factors learned from our book. Trustworthiness, competence, objectivity,…
