The poem titled “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson is about a story about depression. The author of this poem could have been better. The consequences of his choices were high, yet he is continuing to follow through with it.
The poem is about a man who is rich and seems too happy to the people who are around him when in reality he is not he is actually depressed with his life. The speaker tells us that Richard Cory is “a gentleman from the sole to crown” (line3) and is admirably schooled in every grace (line 10). By this we actually know that he was well dressed and respected from the people who are around him he was the man that everyone wanted to be. However, he was actually struggling in his life.
