Copper, my dog that I had had since I was borne, was dying. I couldn’t believe my ears. I ran up to my living room and saw Copper lying on the floor. He was a thirteen year old dog and that was a very good age for a dog to die at. I ran up to him and lay there beside him until my dad had to take him to the vet to get put down.…

When I was in first grade, my mother finally relented and bought my sister a dog, a tiny, black Cockapoo puppy she named “Pepper”. Allison had wanted one for a long time and her pleas were duly noted after she tried to bring our cousin’s dog back to Maryland with us. The tantrum on the way home when her plans failed was the tipping point. A year passes and my mother loves Pepper so much so she wants another dog. There was an unspoken agreement that this second dog would be mine. A day's trip back to the breeder in Virginia and we learned there weren’t many Cockapoo puppies left to choose from. My parents idea to get a white one and name it “Salt” were, understandably, put on hold. Nevertheless, I examined the few puppies left and choose one…

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…
The loss of a pet is never easy; to me he was part of my family, my third hair kid. I could not even consider replacing that dog, none would be able to live up to the greatness that he was. Oh, how I loved that dog, that Toby! I didn’t need to go through that kind of pain again. The thing is though, he taught me so many things and was such a wonderful dog, he rescued me. He taught me how to love a dog. In my mind I heard him saying in his doggy voice” you need a dog, Mom. Go get her mom. Find her, she needs you, save her!” I was ready and I did. Toby gave me…

As I sit here trying to remember my earliest experience with death, I recall on the time that my hamster, Chewy had passed away. I was 9 years old and was in a strange part of my life. I was never popular in school and didn’t have a lot of friends growing up. Chewy was my best friend and cheered up me whenever I felt down. His warm fuzzy coat always made the hairs on my arms stick up whenever he would brush by me so fast; and the way he way would nudge all throughout my hair till he was completely stuck brought laughter to my ears. One day after school I rushed home to put Chewy in his ball and he could barely push it forward. Only being 9 years old I had no idea what was wrong and quickly called out to my mother. After a few days Chewy lost most of his hair and his personality was out of the picture. I was horrified the morning when I awoke to find him laying dead in his wheel not responding to my call. My mother and I made a cross and buried him in the backyard underneath her rose bush. She was there for me and gave me plenty of time to work through my many emotions. We…
In exploring the themes of identity and belonging, individuals (are the individuals exploring the themes? That’s how it reads.) will make sacrifices against certain things in order to belong in society, this usually results in the loss of identity. In life, many people will have to make very difficult decisions, which lead them to make sacrifices or compromise. The most common sacrifices and compromises are usually personal, such as against family which may lead certain people to take up another culture, against sexual orientation which may lead the person to quit something they love doing and against education which may result in the loss of family tradition.…
One memory that I have is when I got my dog ( Axel). I was happy because he is a very good dog. This was special because I still remember him when he was small. Me my sister and my dad were at home and soposibly "my mom and brother were shopping at the mall". Then they come home and I remember me seeing the dog and I didn't tell my sister. Also I remember my brother bringing him inside the house and my sister was very happy. We got the dog from the Fresno adoption center. That's the memory I…
When I was 14 and my 8th grade year was ending my cat Rascal that my family had for 7 years had gotten blood clots in his legs, we had to put him down. My family was upset for days. My older brother Hunter was affected the most by my cat’s death. Rascal and Hunter were best friends because he helped Hunter with his anxiety and his mental health. Many years passed by that were full of fun, laughter, heart ache, trouble, and hard times. Never the less; we made it through the years.
