In the last 5 years, Facebook has become the most prominent social networking in Asia,

including Vietnam. Although the users number is not high compared with other countries in the

region, but Vietnam has a speed of development of Facebook users fastest in the world. Most of

Facebook users in Vietnam is the teenager. They tend to use Facebook whenever and wherever

to exchange information with their friends. This research paper concentrates on 3 main issues:

1. Why Vietnamese teenagers love using Facebook?

2. Effects of Facebook on teenagers: Positive and Negative

3. Whether we consider Facebook as an official channel for communications.

Why Vietnamese teenagers love using Facebook?

“By May 8/2013 , in Vietnam has 19.6 million Facebook users , accounting for 21.42 % of the population and 71.4 % of Internet users” (71.4% of Internet users use Facebook in Vietnam ) Facebook has become a huge trend on the internet and strong attraction, espcially with teenagers. Most of them is student in highschool, university even secondary school. According to shared by many young people, Facebook has many attractive young people that make they can easily be “addicted” as: the virtual community, so you can make friends with countless people that you do not know over the world, which is where you can share with other hobbies, joys and sorrows of life hard to say. Many young people consider it as a true friend because they be there to show their personality, to comment and share their photos for most favourite and beyond, this cause they to be more confident to be themselves. They can also share with friends useful information

to life by quoting the article related to the youth’s life, such as theft, love in shcool, the shining

example in shcool in everyday life, etc. In short, Facebook has become an indispensable

entertainment, as a spiritual food to the youth’s life.

Effects of Facebook on Teenagers

Facebook has become an indispensable entertainment tool to youth’s life. They use

Facebook everyday but it impacts significantly to their life at the same time. This impaction has

two sides: positive and negative.

First of all, there are few benefits of using Facebook can be considered: make friends, share feeling and find empathy, a place for business. Topic “ What do you use Facebook to do?” on the forum has received a lot of attention and interesting answers from members . In particular, old friends , socializing with new friends , gossip , sharing status , pictures with people is the most popular answer - accounted for 81.21 % in a similar topic on VN - zoom.com( According to Facebook đã ảnh hưởng đến bạn như thế nào?) Instead of keeping stress, angry inside, many people have chosen to share Facebook enthusiastically. Accordingly, they just need to answer the question of this virtual friends "What's your mind?" Was felt more comfortable. In contrast, the share of joy, happiness, the joy that can be multiplied. Thus, people have a choice to express thoughts, feelings, although it is virtual instead need a real soul mate.
Choosing Facebook for business is that the business is currently aiming for. Accordingly, enterprises can create and promote a Fanpage on Facebook is easy and completely free. If you provide services, products, and there are fascinating event attracted then soon you have a business online booth not inferior to a traditional store. Development of a “virtual” empathy which actually effected friends’ moods positively,

and cause teens to be more empathetic in their everyday lives, as well. It seems that encouraging

comments online can put a smile on someone’s face and improve mood. Facebook and other networking sites gives shy children a way to socialize which might otherwise be lacking altogether. Hopefully, this virtual training ground can extend in to actual face-to-face interactions. Use of face book may impact self-esteem in a positive way and allows children to develop their self-identify. Choosing a photo, listing like and dislike, favorite of this-and-that, quotations, and the like, all “force” your child to become more self-aware.
Besides, when teens spend too much time on Facebook also cause a lot of negative

effects for them. Dr. Larry Rosen, o psychology professor at California State University, has

studied 25 years about effects of technolofy on human. His newest study were carried out by

survey 1.000 teenagers and observation of 300 teens actively study. The results show that many

negative effects can be made when teens “overdosing” Facebook and other social networking.

“Negative effects of Facebook on teens who overuse this social media include:

Teens who use Facebook frequently may become narcissstic, If you are not already

familiar whit that term, dictionary.com describes narcissistic as an, “ inordinate

fascination with oneself, execssive self-love; vanity”. Most likely these are not the

character traits you desire for your child.

Teen who have a strong Facebook presence may display psychological disorders, such as

anti-social behaviors, and mania and aggressive tendencies. An anti-social child often

does not consider the effects their actiond have on others. This can be quite dangerous,

especially during the already-volatile teen years. Perhaps this should be termed the anti

social media effect

The Facebook effect is real, but teens who “overdose” on technology daily, and this

includes video games too, have higher absenteeism from shcool and more likely to get

stmach aches, have sleep issues, and feel more anxious and depressed”. Whether we consider Facebook as an official channel for communications
What is this form you ask? It's something that has swept not only the nation but the entire world.
Facebook has 137.6 million visitors a month in the United States alone. With the average person spending
7 hours 45 minutes on this social media site monthly, Facebook is bound to affect the way people interact with one another.
This change in communication has become referred to as "The Facebook Effect." In his book
"The Facebook Effect," author David Kirkpatrick discusses the history of Facebook as well as the influences it has had on society.
Before the era of Facebook, long-distance relatives and friends might only be heard from on a rare occasion. But with Facebook, these relatives and acquaintances can be heard from daily.
Communication with those who are far away no longer consists of conversations to catch up on the major details that have happened in each other's lives during the past six months. Status updates allow people to see what is happening in the other person's life regularly.
Not only do you see the big things, but the small day-to-day things as well. Facebook has broken down barriers and made long-distance relatives seem as if they are a thing of the past. Having communication so easily accessible has also become a negative thing. Bullying in person has perhaps decreased with Facebook but on the rise is cyber-bullying, one of the most widespread problems among youth. This new form of bullying is incredibly dangerous due to the fact that it can be anonymous and hard to escape. It's said that words hurt us the most which is why cyber-bullying is so serious and can ruin lives. Although there have been social networking sites before Facebook which allowed relatives and friends to communicate and also featured problems with cyber-bullying, Facebook has created the issue on a much larger scale. Facebook has many users of all ages whereas previous social networking sites have catered to one age or social group over another. Facebook is for everyone, and this is why it has been left with the greatest number of users and does not show any sign of going anywhere anytime soon.

Facebook has proved irresistible to many because we are lured into joining by friends and family. Browsing, reading, comparing and nosing is instinctive, impulsive and reflects our tendencies offline, our "social graph", as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg likes to call it. Having executed the social networking business idea better than its rivals – MySpace, Bebo, Friendster and Hi5 have been left for dust – Facebook has seen astonishing growth, from a Harvard dorm project in 2003 to a global phenomenon that had 500 million monthly users by July this year. That's already one in 13 people on Earth, and Zuckerberg recently predicted it was "almost a guarantee" that his site would reach 1 billion users, with growth in relatively untapped markets such as Russia, Japan and Korea "doubling every six months".…
