Chapter I
The Problem and It’s Background
1.1. Introduction Education is a vital tool to succeed in life. Every individual deserves quality education due to them. Many of us are privileged to study in public schools because education is free. Billions of pesos are spent by the government to invest in education. The budget allotted by the government in education is spent through teachers’ training, students’ welfare, scholarships, etc. We cannot deny that [millions] of pesos are wasted annually in the management of schools because of the teacher’s ignorance of the most effective methods of instruction, of the best means of selecting and organizing subject-matter, or of the best means of classifying and promoting [students]1.
Three factors or predictors in math achievement are divided into sub factors: Demographic factors (gender, socio-economic status, parent’s educational level), Instructional factors (curriculum, instructional strategies and methods, teacher competency in math education, and school context and facilities, and Individual factors (self-directed learning, arithmetic ability, and motivation or concentration). These are examined in the literature review.
