PART A:
List two different fad diets popular in society today:
CABBAGE SOUP DIET:
The first fad diet I chose was the cabbage soup diet. The cabbage soup diet is a weight loss diet that was built around the basis of consuming nothing but cabbage soup for a whole week. It doesn’t require any long term commitment and is designed for short term weight loss.
This diet typically declares that this diet is made to lose 4.5 kg of weight in seven days although professionals state that is it almost impossible to lose that much in a week.
Although the origins of this diet are unknown, its influx in popularity was due to an urban legend in the 1980s. This diet is covered under many names, such as “sacred heart diet”, “military cabbage soup”, “TJ miracle soup diet” and “Russian peasant diet, usually linking the diet to a mainstream institution. All the institutes have denied a link with this diet. The diet outlines that the participant may consume as much soup as they want for the duration of the week.
THE GRAPEFRUIT DIET:
The second fad diet I have chosen for this topic is the grapefruit diet, otherwise known as the Hollywood diet or wrongly dubbed as the mayo clinic diet. This fad diet has lasted throughout the US from the 1930s. The diet is built up on the basis that the grapefruit has an enzyme or something similar to that that burns fat.
The many countless variations of this diet are considered unhealthy and potentially dangerous because of it being too low in calories (below 1200 a day, whilst the average for women is 2000 and for men 2500), too low in carbohydrates or two low in overall essential micronutrients.
Grapefruit in itself is harmful and can obstruct medications.
The diet is low-carb. Its said that when eaten with high in dietary fat goods grapefruit will burn body fat. It is usually encouraged that they eat grapefruit along with foods like meat, eggs and other things that are rich in fat and protein.
The diet restricts the consumption
