The working class fell into a depression when families lost their savings when the banks collapsed, were unable to make payments and evicted from their homes. Economic nationalism was prevalent during this time because citizens were doing anything to promote their own country even if it meant the downfall of another. From 1939-45 World War II was the beginning of what nationalism meant to the country. In a sense nationalism caused WWII— it needed to be present in order to convince a population of people that they were superior to other countries, that their nation was better than others and that’s why they needed to be eliminated. The war brought the Germans together in unity and increased their productivity by creating millions of new jobs and supplying consumer goods to the people, doubling profits and helping businesses recover. Nationalism influenced the populations belief in military supremacy of the nation and placed the belief and assurance they needed in order to believe that the country was fair and not to blame for other nations …show more content…
In the 1990s New Nationalist were becoming sort of the trending topic for the meaning of nationalism during the time period. This was when the elite white were beginning to become more and more private. They wanted to have their own responsibilities, own property, schools, healthcare, neighborhoods etc and keep people of color and middle/ lower class white people out of their circle and away from their beliefs. New nationalist believes that they as a group could resolve any problem they had by themselves. New nationalist basically felt that they did not need to unify with anyone but people that were the same as themselves because that’s all they needed in order to feel the effects that nationalism has on people. This is when nationalism started to weaken rather than make people feel proud of being apart of
