Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

Today was the second session with Erinn Morrison. E.M has been keeping up with her class scheduled feeling more positive and motivated. She only missed one class last week which was Friday at 2pm, due to a slight panic attack which occurred in her Friday at 1pm class. When asked, E.M stated the panic attack was simply due to outside noises (movie playing too loud from next door), which effected her ability to concentrate and finish the test in a timely manner. From this E.M felt more comfortable missing her next class, allowing herself to calm down and talk to her professor about the distractions. I asked E.M how her other classes are going, and if she felt any other panic attacks or concerns with tests and assignments. E.M sighed in relief,…

Ariadne is a 17 year old Hispanic female with a history of depression, suicide attempt, and recent substance abuse. She feels unwelcome at school and not useful at home. She has been seen by a mental health counselor last year. She is able to talk to her friends and has one “special” friend but feels her family is too strict and has too many rules (courseroom2.capella.edu, assignment 3, 2013). Javanmivi, Kimiaze, & Hashem (2013) stated depression is one of the most common diseases in these days which have been known as mental flu. Adolescence also plays a pivotal and key role in our society in which depression is very common. So it is necessary to treat this disorder in adolescence (pg., 105). Ariadne will be difficult to reach because of her age. Being a teenager means finding your voice, which you are, what one likes and dislikes. They often challenge rules to set or get their independence. Based on my experience, they often come in looking for someone to agree with them, tell them they are right or just listen without being told no. In this crisis situation Ariadne passed suicide attempt and substance abuse stands out. The fact that she finds comfort in talking to her friends and not parents is second. The counselor would like to find out what Ariadne have in common with her friends, how long have they been friends, and what happens what leads her to drink. As her counselor, one would need to know what Ariadne plans to gain from this visit. Does she really want to be here? Sometimes depression hopelessness,…
