Fairy Tale appropriation- The Three Little Pigs
The Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time, there was an old sow with three little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them, she sent them out to seek their fortune.

Along the way they met a farmer with a bundle of hay.

The oldest pig asked, "Please sir, may we purchase your hay to build a house?"

And he made an agreement with the little pigs... except the youngest pig, "No brother, we should not buy this hay. The land, from which this hay cut, was de-forested, destroying numerous natural habitats. The soil was also churned up, damaging the land. This hay is a result of death."

His brothers did not see this and sneering at him, they continued on their way to a meadow to build their house. The youngest pig sadly followed. After the pigs had built their new home, the oldest pig went in to examine it.

"Oh! How comfortable this house is! Hang on a moment!" The little pig locked the door and opened the window. "Go away! I am very comfortable here alone. I want nothing to do with you!" And he shut the window.

The two poor pigs cried and begged their brother to open the door. But he would not let them in. The little pigs went away in sorrow. Soon enough, they met a lumberjack.

"Please sir, we have but little money. May we purchase a few logs from you, to build a house?" the middle pig asked.

"No brother, we shouldn't buy this wood." The youngest pig protested. "Trees help clean and freshen the air, keep the soil from eroding and form ecosystems, which several flora and fauna inhabit. By buying this wood, you are encouraging the wood-cutter to chop down more trees. Then we will not have any air to breathe, the riverbanks will disappear and even more animals will lose their homes and die."

"Little brother, you are surely silly! A few logs will amount to no such difference. Besides, we must hurry for it will soon be dark." Then, the rest of their money was exchanged for some wood. The disappointed little pig reluctantly obeyed his older brother and they built a

After the split of the boys into two tribes, Ralph’s tribe finds a female pig, also named a “sow” and kills it with a spear. “Struck down by the heat, the sow fell and the hunters hurled themselves at her.” (Golding 135) The sanity level of each boy is thrown out the window and their instinct for food kicks in as they kill the sow for food. After they have killed the sow, the group of boys sharpen a long stick and stick the pig’s head on it after harvesting the meat off of the pig’s body. “Jack held up the head and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth.” (Golding 136)…

In America, three main pig varieties inhabit the country-- the tiny ones who have become popular pets, the chunky ones that roam around the farm, and the wilds ones who traipse through the backwoods. These creatures with wet snouts and curled tails, that waltz their way away around on their petite hooves stopping only to eat, sleep, or wallow in mud, have similar characteristics, but an all-inclusive different purpose. Each contributing to society in their own way, the pigs in the USA come in all different sizes: the small trending pet micro-pig, the medium sized farm pig, and the oversized hog with tusks and vicious tendencies.…

There is not a lot of food for the animals after the pigs, who do not…
