Americans choose to have faith. Faith has always been a huge part of America and often shapes who we are as people. An example of faith making us better is in Anne Bradstreet’s “Upon the burning of our house”. In her poem her house was burning down with all her things, which would normally be devastating. However, Bradstreet choose to see the good in it, she ends her poem with a strong message, “The world no longer let me Love, My hope and treasure lyes Above” (Bradstreet 6). In my opinion Bradstreet’s poem means since she has a strong faith in God, she knows she’ll get through anything and knowing this makes her a better person. Americans, like Bradstreet, use faith to better ourselves mentally and physically. Faith helps Americans today get through tough times such as loss, pain, etc. just like how religion helped Bradstreet to move on and be okay, not dwell on her house being burnt …show more content…
We as Americans have demonstrated we are brave because we are willing to die for what we believe is right. A great example of an American willing to die for something he truly believes in is Patrick Henry, when he was giving his “Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death” speech. His whole speech was about how the king of England had oppressed the colonists we needed to take action and make a change. “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” (Henry 10) Henry was very brave to say anything against the king since it would be considered treason; The penalty for treason at the time was death. Americans, like Henry, are very brave and have shown many examples throughout history and in everyday life of how brave we truly
