The idea of “Falling Girl” is about the shortness of human life. Besides, it discusses people always focus on petty concerns but sink the most important item into oblivion. I choose “Falling Girl” as one of my displaying artwork as the girl only reacts with people in the story originally. Although some of them try to do action or movement that seem trying to save her, some of the people who exist originally also do this; no one can help her eventually. The reaction of all character in the story, including the girl, the residents and the audiences reveal the relationship between people in the virtual world. People communicate with each other through a monitor in some way. It is not rare that people on social networking sites meet friends who he or she does not know in reality but sharing the deepest secret or emotion. However, the one in the opposite can do nothing for him or her. People can only text “Don’t worry”, “Things will be fine”, but still they can do nothing. The views show inside “Osmose” are somehow abstract and fantasy. For example, audiences can see the root of a tree in a different viewing angle. In reality, it is impossible for human to see through the soil and look at the root directly. However, audiences can do it through the virtual world, the other reality. “Osmose” help audiences to explore the nature in a different way, guiding them to reflect on the relationship between human and nature and about themselves. This artwork also discusses the boundaries between human and machine can be transcended. In fact, human become more and more depending on machine and technology in our daily life. In this artwork, it uses nothing but breathes as the medium to interact with the virtual world. Breathe represent “living” and sustain life, I think using breathe as medium also can represent machine become part of our daily life by extending our ability.
