This year Americans will spend over $110 billion on fast food alone. Fast food is most definitely not good for you. Fast food is usually high in fat, calories, cholesterol and sodium. Fast food restaurants add lots of salt and other additives to make their food taste good. Eating fast food for long periods of time can cause high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. Fast food is not good for you because it is highly addictive, it costs too much and it is very unhealthy.
First, fast food is addictive. One reason why the fast food industry has lasted so long is because the food that they serve is addictive. Every time you take your child to McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or any other fast food restaurant you are making them just a little bit more addicted to the that food. The idea of getting a tasty and cheap meal will keep some customers coming back no matter how unhealthy it is. Also, these fast food restaurants add lots of salt and other additives to make people that eat their food crave it even more.
Second, the price of fast food can add up quickly over a month or a year. If you ate at a fast food restaurant three times a week and your meal cost six dollars you would spend around $864. Think of all the things that you could buy with that money. You are not just spending lots of money; you are spending lots of money on products that can hurt your health. Why not spend that money on healthy food that tastes just as good? Americans spend more money on fast food that they do on movies, books, magazines, newspapers, videos and recorded music combined. Fast food chains are now trying to get you to buy more of there food by lowering their prices and offering dollar menus.
Last but not least, fast food is undoubtedly the most unhealthy food you can eat. A meal from McDonalds can contain upwards of 2,410 Calories! Doctors recommended that we eat around 2,000 calories a day. If you eat that meal from McDonalds you would have eaten
