onto it, Salim kicking Jamal out of the hotel room threatening to kill him and then running off with Latika, and Salim’s noble decision when handing over the keys to Latika to get to Jamal. All of these are examples are of Jamal’s and other characters in the films contributions affecting the course of events leading Jamal not only to becoming financially stable but also getting Latika in the end . Its Jamal’s sheer determination that brings him to Latika, however other characters influence his life. On the other hand, if Jamal was not driven by the belief that Latika was his ‘destiny’ he would have near have made choices to get Latika.
Body 2: Without Jamal's belief in fate he would have never been driven to find Latika
T- Jamal’s purpose in life dramatically changes at a very young age, when he loses his mother and meets Latika for the first time sitting in the rain. From the day he invites Latika into the shelter he falls in love with her, and all the choices he makes are made to get Latika. However without the belief that Latika was his destiny he would have never have made those decisions.
E- Throughout the film there are many instances of Jamal refers to Latika as his destiny; “I knew I´d find you in the end. It´s our destiny”, Jamal says to Latika after having freed her from Maman. When Salim asks Jamal why he can’t let go of Latika, Jamal answers “She is my destiny” and in the last scene when Jamal and Latika are reunited he declares: “This is our destiny”.
E - These quotes show us the continual reference to Latika as his destiny, this belief is what ultimately drives Jamal to find Latika.
L – Jamal’s belief in Latika being his destiny is what drives him to make the choices; makes him get Latika in the end.
Body 3: How fate and freewill are intertwined with each other, give examples of this
T – In slumdog millionaire fate and freewill are a continual reoccutance especially in the lives of Latika and Jamal.
E – This is illustrated when Jamal is working at the call centre and locating his brother on the computers database, this would be a choice. Jamal then follows his brother after becoming suspicious with Salim’s association with a gangster, this another example of a choice. Jamal then happens to see Latika, this is fate; Jamal then pretends to be a dishwasher, choice. Another instance of when fate and freewill occur is when Salim gives his mobile phone to Latika, a choice, and then on the show Jamal calls thinking his brother would answer but Latika answers, fate. Another example of how fate and freewill are closely linked in this film is when Jamal runs into the blind singer Arvind, fate; the blind singer tells him where to find Latika, fate.
L – These scenes show us how fate and freewill are intertwined with each other. Because without the decisions made by Jamal and others Latika and Jamal would have never
have
Conclusion - I believe that everyone builds his or her own future. Jamal coming from the slums changed and made his own fate, all because he actively took part in changing his future and strived to lift himself from the slums into which he was once born in and have a happy ending with the beautiful girl and the money, but without Jamal’s belief that Latika was his destiny he would have never have made those choices leading him to the climax of his life. This movie just goes to show that everyone is responsible for their own your actions and whatever outcomes they produce.
