Father: Time and Life
My Father

The most influential person in my life is my father. No matter the time flies, he is still the person I am familiar with. Although time will make him get older, time can not destroy his vitality. Although he is not the richest person in the world, he is the greatest father in my life. Although I fell down a lot in my life, he always influenced me to get up. He has influenced me to realize the good and high education which will make me to reach the successful life in my future rather than the material life. He also influenced me to realize that no matter how hard the life is, everybody has to face and accept the life’s test and obstacles. In my memories, I was not a smart and independent person. I always thought why my family was different from the others’ which were rich, and why my father was different from the others’ who were educated. I didn’t like to stay at home because I was not satisfied with my family and I was not proud of my father. I always complained of my fate, why God treated me unfairly in the world. I hated this kind of life because my mind was willful and naïve. I had never thought about my father’s situations and feelings. I had never thought who raised me. I always disappointed my father a lot because I always didn’t go to school. The teachers in my classes always called my father and complained of me. I always got the bad grades in each class and cut the classes a lot. One day, after my father came home from work, he looked so tired and lost lots of energy. His face showed he was so disappointed and upset. I found that he looked older and skinnier. He sat down and asked me softly why I always didn’t go to school. But I pretended that I didn’t hear what he said. Actually, he got so angry, but he didn’t yell at me. He just said “wonderful life is dependent on our own hands, as long as we are not afraid to get through the life’s test and obstacles, the success will always wait for us in front of our lives.” I knew the meaning of

The first person narrative poem ‘Father and child’ by Gwen Harwood, is structured in two sections each with seven stanzas and six lines. It focuses on an individuals revolt against authority and the consequences of such an action, as well as an insinuation of the imminent death of a parent. Harwood uses persuasive and implicit means to “mirror” the loss of innocence and its effect on the sense of appreciation or acceptance of the complexities existing in the wider world. Overall, ‘Father and Child’, demonstrates the individuals pursuit of power over the authoritative figure through defiance in the form of rebellion and destruction of authority. Through this Harwood challenges widely recognised stereotypes of purity and innocence associated with young girls and has also enriched my own perception on the connection between childhood memories and their effect on shaping an individuals identity.…

I have had multiple influential people in my life, but I'm not going to say my parents or a great teacher, but rather someone closer to my age. Andrew Calton, a good friend and great influence. Andrew helped me “get back on my feet” when I was scared to kayak. I would stay on the lake and not go on rivers because I had no confidence in myself. Late at night he and Jack White, another good friend, came to my cabin at camp and told me there was a spot on a trip and he wanted me to go. I went on the trip and the fact that they wanted me to go boosted my confidence. We went on harder rivers I had never been on and I did not swim, or bail out of by boat once.…
