“The right good book is always a book of travel; it is about a life’s journey.” This quote was written by H.M. Tomlinson. This quote means that the proper story is all the time a book about advancements; it is about personal growth. I agree with the interpretation because in all good books people change and mature. One work of literature that I have read which relates to the quote is the book Holes by Louis Sachar. Another book that supports the quote is the book, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers.

The first example is from the story, Holes. The main character, Stanley III, steals a water truck to help his friend, Zero, but fails. Stanley Yelnats the third has a family who is cursed because of the original Stanley Yelnats back in the old days. Stanley Yelnats the third was sent to Camp Green Lake after he was accused of stealing a famous baseball player’s shoes from a homeless shelter. Stanley continued to dig holes at Camp Green Lake until he came across a mysterious lipstick tube, which led to new discoveries. Stanley is a boy who lacked confidence. He had always let himself get bullied around. When Stanley stole a water truck to help Zero, he demonstrated that he had gained self-confidence. For the remainder of the novel, he continued to show self-confidence as he advanced in his life. This example about Stanley supports my interpretation of the critical lens quote.

The second example is also from Holes. Zero is another boy who lacked confidence. Zero’s real name is Hector Zeroni. Back in the old day, Hector’s great-great-great grandmother, Madam Zeroni, was the one who cursed the original Stanley Yelnats and his

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” The concept of “not the destination but the journey” is seen in this statement. In Frank Darabont’s film: “Shawshank Redemption” this proves to be true, likewise in Craig Silvey’s novel: “Jasper Jones”. Both of these texts challenge our understandings of what is success and how by adapting to the journey, one can find new qualities within ourselves.…

The quote “All literature shows us the power of emotion. It is emotion, not reason that motivates characters in literature.” By Duff Brenna is a great way to summarize how authors make books. it is displayed in the book The Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. I agree with her quote 100%. An easier interpretation of this quote is Emotions will get the better of you and blind your judgment to give you the power to do things you normally wouldn’t. Both books have prime examples to support the quote, each with their own literary devices.…

How would the world be if it is being controlled with oppression by its own government? Fahrenheit 451, written by Bradbury, is a novel that talks about a society controlled by a government who tries to brainwash people’s minds and get rid of their knowledge. Guy Montag, the protagonist of the novel, is a firefighter whose job is to burn the possessions of those who read books. After he meets Clarisse McClellan a girl with free thinking ideals and a liberate spirit causes him to question his own life and his perspective of happiness. Montag also finds out how empty his life is, how little he knows about his wife, and that they barely have anything in common. This is a powerful commentary on humankind's urge to suppress what it doesn't understand.…

Many humans debate about whether the journey or the destination is more important to an individual’s growth. Throughout the course of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Montag learns how to break away from the norms of his society and express his own beliefs after he meets various sources of inspirations. Similarly, during The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a boy named Santiago discovers his ability to fulfill actions for himself with the help of many mentors who he meets on his journey. Journeys allow individuals to encounter new people and ideas which ultimately lead them to trust their own intuition instead of seeking guidance from others.…

Do elephants cry? Of course they do, because they care about each other. A mother elephant will shield her calf from vicious predators and the hot sun, guiding it underneath herself. If there’s an obstacle in their path, a mother will carry her child over it, when a dust storm hits, she will personally bathe her precious baby. Just like humans, elephants create deep emotional bonds between their families and herds. Except, humans are a little better at expressing their feelings. We care for our loved ones in many ways, but most everyone has different ways of showing it.…

“Reading good literature won’t make a reader a better person any more than just sitting in a church, synagogue, or mosque will. But reading good books well just might.” This quote is from the article “How Reading Makes Us More Human.” It shows that although the common belief is that reading will make us better people, it doesn’t mean anything to us unless we really know how to comprehend the book itself and allow it to influence our decisions. A text that applies to this idea is A Raisin in the Sun. It is just a normal book until you take it to a new realization and apply it to much more. Through this book, I have learned how characters are influenced by their surroundings, how pieces of the book connect to this quote, and how my life has been influenced by the actions of characters throughout the book.…

I agree with Le Guin that the adventure itself is more significant than your end goal. When journeying to accomplish your goals, you learn invaluable life lessons and make memories. Those are the things that will carry you through your journey and remain with you for the rest of your life. A real life application of this quote is high school. The end goal is to graduate with a diploma, vital for the rest of your life;…

This quote means that people in the book can grow throughout the story and take variant people to different places. This is a result of making them think of new ideas based on the author of books message or overall theme. I agree with this quote and interpretation due to the experiences I had with various books. Two works of Literature that supports this quote is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Monster by Walter Dean Meyers. Nowadays a lot of people think that the more people have TV or Internet in their homes, the fewer people will buy books. It's often thought why to read long novels, when a play on TV can tell you the same story with colours, pictures and actions. But I'm certain, that books are still popular, becouse it's a cheaper way, than to go to the cinema and also you can keep a book forever and read it many time.…
