CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

A Service Business is a business which sells services directly to consumers. Services are intangible in nature, only appearing when required by the consumer, which makes the nature of a service business very different from that of other types of businesses. Marketing a service business can be tricky, because people are selling an intangible idea, rather than a product. Marketing often focuses on showcasing results, and on pushing customer service values to suggest that people will have a positive experience when they work with the business. Starting a service business can be less costly than starting up a business which makes and sells products. Depending on the type of business, much less capital investment may be required.

Given this fact, it is not in any wonder why the hair care and beauty salon business continue to remain amongst the rapidly growing industries today. This business is highly competitive. It is important that you keep yourself abreast with the latest trends in hair styling, treatments, and products.

Though, it is true that this business promises good returns, the competition is pretty tough.

Society has lead women to relate their physical appearance is direct proportion to their self worth. In light of this fact, beauty salons all over the world offer as much as possible to their clients to make sure that they go out looking no lesser than Madonna or even a modern

Strengths: This venture does have experienced, creative leaders and researchers since Susan Sever (the owner) has years of management under her belt. Ms. Sever has done all of her research about the hair salon industry. The industry is easy for anyone to start and end a business which makes for a competitive market. Ms. Sever has realized that customers are looking for quality work and great customer service without paying an arm and a leg; so she has a plan to cater to all of her clients’ needs. Her target market includes men, women who cannot afford the expensive upscale salons, and women with children. She has a plan of hiring six experienced hair dressers and an experienced receptionist. Ms. Sever will be offering training to her employees so they can stay up to date on their skills.…

Regression analysis is a statistical tool for the investigation of relationships between variables. The investigator seeks to ascertain the causal effect of one variable upon another—the effect of a price increase upon demand, for example, or the effect of changes in the money supply upon the inflation rate. To explore such issues, the investigator assembles data on the underlying variables of interest and employs regression to estimate the quantitative effect of the causal variables upon the variable that they influence. The investigator also assesses the “statistical significance” of the estimated relationships, that is, the degree of confidence that the true relationship is close to the estimated relationship.…
