INTRODUCTION
In this assignment we will be discussing the artifact we chose from the media which it is on fees must fall. The campaign started mainly because student felt the exorbitant fees were preventing them from accomplishing their degrees and pursuing their dreams in life into furthering their studies. On the other hand student who were able to complete their degrees felt as if there were being punished, they wanted the protest to stop and emphasized that violence doesn’t solve anything and it never the answer. The fees must fall campaign didn’t not only affect the education system in South Africa but also caused a huge negative impact on the South African economy.
The fees must campaign stared in late 2015 the students were fighting against the proposed increase in university fees. In the country like South Africa there are many challenges that face the community at large and one of those challenges being education. Many students as is cannot afford tertiary education. The fees must fall movement is demanding free education. In previous years students protests have always been part of the fabric of tertiary education, but what has set apart the fees must fall movement is the joining previously known universities as white universities. In all aspect the student argued that education must not be treated as a commodity but as a right that student are in entitled to have and enjoy. Which this lead to the university management arguing that they couldn’t be free education for all due to lack of funds from the government supporting institutions.
