What the students failed to realize is that they were the ones who decided to go to college. Students have the option to attend a less-expensive college, like community college or online education, or to not attend a college altogether (Bennett). They were the ones who did not work hard enough to earn a scholarship. It is not the rich people’s job to pay for their education. Even if those whose income is more than one million dollars are forced to pay a 100 percent income tax, it would only amount to 616 billion in revenue, which is not enough to cover the 1.2 trillion dollar student loan debt (Beato). It is each person’s job to learn how to be responsible for themselves. It is called growing up and becoming an adult. If each person works hard and actually puts forth effort, they will eventually pay off all of their student loans. They should not be given free money just so they can attend college, that would not be fair to the banks or to the
