In this scenario, the hospital should take Mary off life support even though she is pregnant. Although the hospital believes that they are doing what’s best for the fetus, it may not necessarily be what is best for the family in this moment of grief. The reasons for this argument are because Mary had previously told John, her husband, that she would not want to be kept alive if anything were to happen. Secondly, even if Mary was kept on life support long enough to perform a caesarean section procedure on the fetus, the fetus may still have a high chance of developing permanent birth defects. It is also very possible that the premature fetus does not survive at all independently from…
Race, education, and incarceration: three factors that are all undeniably linked in America’s present day society. Race has been an issue for the entirety of American history. Institutionalized racism can be seen everywhere – health outcomes, wealth distribution, housing, education, incarceration rates, and so on. One in every three black men will be incarcerated in his lifetime and blacks are five times more likely to be incarcerated than whites – this is no coincidence. There are numerous different factors as to why this may be the case, such as subconscious racism by police force, being raised and socialized in areas with higher crime rates, policy changes targeting specific populations, etcetera.…
It is said that one of the major, long-term physiological effects of alcohol is the liver. This would be true since this is one of the first tests I had done to me. Thank God, all was ok. Other parts of the body include the bones, brain, endocrine system, and the development of growth. I would think the latter would be both a physical and psychological one; especially since the brain is affected. These effects can also occur in short-term drinking.…

The truth is that one 12 ounce bottle of beer or a 5 ounce glass of wine is equal to the amount of alcohol in a 1.5 ounce shot or liquor and can cause the same effects (“Facts About Alcohol”). Short term effects of alcohol include nausea, vomiting, dehydration, coma, death, blackout, memory loss, poor vision, reduced reaction time, and loss of judgement along with self control (Friedman,…
