Fiction Division and Classification
Fiction There are many different types of fiction. Many people confuse these different types of fiction and classify fiction books into incorrect groups. To help better understand fiction they would have to know what types of fiction there are and what they’re like. These types of fiction include realistic fiction, science fiction, and historical fiction. Realistic fiction refers to stories that might really happen, stories set in a particular time and that happen to a particular people. The plot of a realistic story focuses on everyday problems, pleasures and personal relationships and the setting seems as real as the world we know. Realistic fiction often allows the reader to identify with characters who are their own age and who have the same interests or problems. Examples of realistic fiction would be books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. This is a book about a boy who finds life hard and writes about it in his diary. The events in this book could all actually happen, therefore classifying it as realistic fiction. Science fiction is a genre of fiction in which the stories often tell about science and technology of the future. It is important to note that science fiction has a relationship with the principles of science, which are important scientific laws and theories. Science fiction is not “realistic” in the sense that you can have aliens and futuristic technologies in it. Science fiction is largely based on writing about possible worlds or futures. An example of one science fiction book would be The Hunger Games series. They have such things like hover planes and force fields that could be possible in the future if invented. Historical fiction is a story that could occur in the past. That setting is usually real and drawn from history, and often contains actual historical people, but the main characters tend to be fictional. In some historical fiction, famous events appear from points of view of these characters. However, in order for a book to be

The relationship between fiction and nonfiction is very elaborate. The book, The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle deals with a family experiencing accidents each year in October and now they want to figure out why. In the book, Cara and her ex-step-brother accidentally fall in love. This tends to happen more often than we think in the world we live in. Fiction is a story that is created from your imagination but can also be inspired by true events. Nonfiction is a true story about real people and real events. But fiction reading is able to influence our ideas about real life.…

Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possible worlds or futures. It is similar to, but differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation).…

Science fiction is a form that deals principally with the impact of actual or imagined science upon society or individuals. If science concerns itself with discovery, then science fiction concerns itself with the consequences of discovery. It is a testament to the visionary nature of the form that science fiction writers predicted the advent of atomic weapons and sentient machines. It endures value though is in its capacity to ask probing questions of each new scientific advance, to conduct a dialogue with progress that decodes its real meaning and reveals it to us.…

Fonquello Gardner 03/23/2015 Introduction to Fiction Discuss the following questions using examples/ quotes from “Tots” and “Androids” “Can a story be true, even if it isn’t?” Fiction is the classification for any creative informational work it is almost, always a narrative. From the quote “ can a story be true, even if it isn’t?” what comes to mind is the curiosity of what- ifs? A story can be as good as reality and reading a great story can take a reader to another world where it can actually seem like it is true.…

My favorite fiction story I read in the textbook is “Hunters in the Snow” by Wolff. This story is a literary fiction because it interpreted real life situations. All through the story, Tub was faced with the harsh treatment of Kenny and Frank until Tub finally had enough. Everything started turning around for Tub after he shot Kenny in the woods. At the end of the story the readers find out that they made the wrong turn going towards the hospital but Tub, Kenny, and Frank don’t know that so it leaves the following scene as a mystery. Fiction literature is extravagant for whatever reason anyone would like because of the fantasy it brings…

Genre fiction, also known as popular fiction, refers to plot-driven fictional works written with the intent of fitting into a specific literary genre, in order to appeal to readers and fans already familiar with that genre. Genre fiction is generally distinguished from literary fiction. Fiction is mainly known as literature in the form of prose, especially short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people. Fiction is an out for two people: the reader, and the author. It allows the reader to escape from their reality and engulf themselves in a fantasy world. It helps to calm their worries. Or getaway from them for the time being. For the author, fiction allows them to put out their feelings by putting them into a fantastical…

Studying the history of our world is just getting information of what happened and you do not really get the details on how a certain event can impact the people during that specific time period. This is where literature comes into play to talk about the major themes that have come out of many historic events. Literature itself whether it is nonfiction or fiction plays a major part in getting readers to walk a mile in the shoes of the character…

In the two stories “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” a common theme of isolation appears. The Yellow Wallpaper focuses on a woman with what her husband, also a physician, diagnoses as “slight hysterical tendency” (Gilman 677). She is forbidden to go outside her home and is completely isolated from the rest of the world. She is also forbidden to express herself through writing and has no mental stimulation, which enables her to focus all her time on the wallpaper. In “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” there is a basic community of men, women, and children but the different groups within the village and the village itself is isolated. There is no unity or common goal within the community until a dead man washes ashore and changes the entire villages perspective on life and on themselves. In both stories isolation plays a key role in the mental health and well-being of the characters experiencing it, which inevitably leads to the obsession of a certain object due to the lack of other forms of mental stimulation.…
