Field Study Proposal
The proposal for my final project is to do a field study on a Navy Federal Credit Union branch located in the Hampton Roads area at 7979 Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia 23511. Navy Federal Credit Union is a company in the financial services industry and its headquarters is based in Vienna, VA. This particular branch is a service providing business that employs 23 employees, two of which are managers and two are supervisors. Their services incubuses a wide range of financial amenities to include money transactions, all types of loans, insurance, investments, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA’s), and the simple savings and checking accounts for your day to day living.
Just like any other credit unions they provide a service which is limited to individuals that can become a member. To become a member you have to be either in the military, Department of Defense (DOD) employee, or a family member of one. A member of a credit union also becomes a partial owner in which they can vote and elected their president and board of directors. Navy Federal Credit Union’s Headquarter has developed guidelines for their employees so there is an equal and set standard among their branches. For example there is a Navy Federal Code of Ethics which governs the way all management and employees conduct themselves in day to day operations.
For my field study I will narrow my discussion down to group maintenance which discusses the behavior of groups and leader-member exchange. I will do this by interviewing both the branch manager as well as one employee. This will allow me to develop both outlooks on the situation and compare and contrast. Does leader behavior have a direct impact on success of its employees and overall business?
Interviewees:
1. Mary Mattice: Branch manger
2. Sarah Leverett: Member service representative
Upon initial observation Navy Federal Credit Union seems like a well-oiled
