In Albert Camus' book chapter "The Rebel," Camus defines rebellion is when a rebel experiences a feeling of having his or her rights being broken, they decide that enough is enough and stand up for herself/himself. In the scholarly article "Teaching about Civil Disobedience," written by J. Clark, Thomas Vontz, and Kristoffer Barikmo, they define civil disobedience as a nonviolent act to break an unjust law, to bring attention to some perceived injustice. The theories and definitions in these texts will be applied to the characters actions and intentions in Jonathan Kaplan film Over the Edge, as well as the actions and intentions of the Stonewall Riots and Montgomery Bus Boycott. From this analysis, in Kaplan's film rebellion and civil disobedience…

1968’s “Night of the Living Dead” is one of the most influential zombie movies of all time. Despite its extremely low budget the movie was a great success. I actually believe that the limited budget is what made the movie successful. Due to the fact that it was shot in black-and-white, it gave the film an unique look contributing to its style. In various instances during the movie it the movie looks like a documentary, which adds to the realism of the movie. But what makes the movies scary? The zombies are the main element of horror in Night of the Living Dead. The viewer is afraid of the threat the zombies represent. They carry the horror, hold our attention, instill dread and act as the prime motivator. During the 1960s, this movie really shocked its audiences with its gory violent scenes and twisted plot lines. The brutal scenes in the movie produce a type of “pain” on the viewer – the images of the vicious deaths allows the audience to envision what it would be like to be in that situation. So, when we view a scene like the eating of the flesh from the victims of the car explosion, we are reacting bodily to the actions of the zombies. Scenes such as that one feel and look real to the viewer contributing to the horror and truthfulness of the movie.…

Hazel told Augustus about how death is separating her from her family and she’s scared to talk about death, since every time they discuss about the topic of death, her parents seem to be extremely worried and gloomy. “I could feel everyone watching us, wondering what was wrong with us, and whether it would kill us, and how heroic my mom must be, and everything else. That was the worst part about having cancer, sometimes: The physical evidence of disease separates you from other people.” (Grace 2014 – Page 144). This quotes explains hazels fear of death because she states about how she can feel everyone wondering about her, caring for her, specially her parents and since she doesn’t want anyone to be close to her, she’s getting separated from everyone. She doesn’t have a way out of this problem. For her, that’s the worst part about having cancer, and how her parents would think she’s depressed but in reality she is not. By a physical evidence, hazel means that her parents and her other relatives believe that she’s in depression and that starts separating her from them because she likes to be left…

I still visit Augustus every day, to talk. I hope he hears me, whispering about Peter Van Houten and how Anna was based on his dead daughter who had leukemia. His parents aren’t dealing with it it all, because, that’s the thing about pain. It demands to be felt. Sometimes I like to go over to his house, to help with the cleaning and heartache. But, my favourite place is his bed. Crawling deep under the soft covers without my cannula just to get one last whiff of his diminishing scent. He’s fading, I can feel it.…

The prevalence and description of death and deathbed scenes and its importance as a plot device is omnipresent to nineteenth-century literature. Death was everywhere and mortality rates were high, especially in children, not all parents expected their children to survive their early years (Da Sousa Correa, p.10). Additionally, maternal death rates were high with women dying, often leaving the baby, and other children in the family with a widowed husband. Thus, authors often used the death of a child to stress the importance of innocence and the value of childhood; the author often expressing the sole reason of a child dying was that they would pass to a better world. For example, nineteenth-century England was in the midst of social and economic…
