Film Summary: Straight Outta Scenarios
Straight Outta Compton is a must see movie based on a hip-hop group, NWA. The Setting took place in in 1986, Compton L.A. (Los Angeles). The group included five great new actors, playing the main portraying the members from NWA. The movie reflected on how the group started their rap career, influencing the people, telling them about what was happing in the hood. This movie also included the rise and fall of NWA and it also reveals scenes that included violence in rough neighborhoods.
F. Gary Gray is the director the Straight Outta Compton movie. It took him four years to capture the essence of what the movie suppose to be. Gary wanted to make the movie real by finding the actors, who can play the members from NWA, and making everything in the movie look like the late 80s. He wanted the setting to be in the same neighborhood, hangouts the group grew up. From the descriptions of what the members from NWA look like has black Raider gear, Jerry Curl hairstyles and attitude. Gray also has his experience with music videos and also appear in two movie as a cameo; Friday along with Straight Outta Compton. The characters in this movie are based off Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Easy E, Yella, and MC Ren. They were all raised in Compton, Los Angeles. Friends from Compton L.A. wanted started a rap career. Dr. Dre, Yella and Ice cube begin recording songs and mixed tap, before becoming famous. Easy E became involve by using his money to buy the equipment to start a rap group. Then Easy started rapping. MC Ren knew Easy E and became involve as well. Which made these characters unique was the truth of street knowledge played in their records. They were reporting the news about what was happening in Compton. The area filled with gang member police office, and people who became victims. The actors in Straight Outta Compton portray the NWA, capturing there personalities and features all together.
Oshea Jackson is Ice Cube’s older son, who plays Ice Cube from back in the day. He never originated as an actor though out his life, until Straight Outta Compton. Oshea Jr wasn’t given this role because he was the son of Ice Cube. He had to prove to F Gary Gray he can portray is father. He had to learn his father’s personality to gain the part as playing Cube. His father gave stories ever since growing up listening to his music, which also can help Oshea Jr to get some ideas. After practicing auditioning as his father for 2 years, manage to get the part and pulled it off. In the movie Oshea Jr not only look and sound like his father but also he became Ice Cube in the movie, which caught the viewers attention, almost having them believe that was Ice Cube.
One scene involves the police stopping the NWA concert in Detroit became one the biggest sequence in the film.
Building this scene was however became a struggle. F Gary Gray wanted to be as real as the actually event that took place, when NWA had a concert in Detroit. This scene shows the N.W.A performing on stage, with the song Fuck the Police. Eventually the policemen stop the concert, which causes the crowd to start rioting. According to F Gary Gray the policemen form riot Detroit concert scene were real LAPD, but in the movie they’re Detroit police officers. Even when the Fuck the Police song, the LAPD officers understood the event that actually happened with the NWA concert in Detroit, so they went with it without taking offenses to
it.
Before the group formed up, the members from N.W.A was judged by their appearance buy what they look like. But other times its because they’re black. Some of the scenes from Straight Outta Compton included the policemen harassed them many times, by placing them on top of the hood of the car, forcing them on the ground for no good reason. Not only does these scenes shows the real life events, that took place in the late 80’s and early 90’s, But also relevant to todays event. Recently over the years there have still been many innocent unarmed victims brutally beaten and killed by police officer. The song Fuck the Police was a message to people about cops harassing people who weren’t doing anything wrong. There wasn’t any intentional for people to say fuck the police because it was cool. It just became the voice of the voiceless, and the movie explain it better by showing the police harassment.
The Straight Outta Compton movie became successful by reaching $200 million in Box Office. It received the award for best picture. The real NWA members enjoyed it because it became real and it captures their essence from when they started. Viewers that listen to NWA and hip-hop loved it. Some viewers may not have listen to NWA, but the movie still gain positive Reponses. The movie even receive positive feed back from movie critics and also is a must see movie.
