Abstract Eugene Flegm has a long history in the field of accounting. He has seen a lot over the years and has come up with four paradoxes which accountants deal with. Of the four paradoxes, two of them have a direct correlation with leadership and management. The paradox of balancing “soft” skills and technical skills is the first paradox. The paradox of the education of accountants is the second paradox that deals with leadership and management. This essay will consist of defending Flegm's paradoxes while bringing in other sources to help the argument.

Accounting Paradoxes and Leadership

In any field or practice, skills are either gained or further developed. As an accountant is it important to develop skills like knowledge of basic accounting principles, ability to conduct research, hard work ethic, etc...Rarely is it thought of that accountants are leaders, but leadership skills are also very important for accountants. While I am just beginning my career in the accounting profession, it can already be seen the development of leadership abilities. Eugene Flegm wrote an article identifying four paradoxes for accountants. The first paradox is how to balance the need for those good with technical skills with the need for articulate managers. The second paradox is the auditee paying the auditor causing independence problems. The third paradox is the precision of bookkeeping and the subjectivity of applied accounting theory. The fourth and final paradox is the education of accountants (Flegm). The first paradox deals with the relationship between the two main personalities. The introvert is someone who has the technical skills. An extravert is someone who has the articulate skills. While many accountants have the personalities of an introvert, it seems as if employers are looking for those with extravert personalities. From a leadership perspective, it is important to have the correct technical skills to be able to teach the staff and correct them when errors

Genie, also known as the "wild child", spent her childhood locked in a bedroom. She was uncivilized, barely able to walk or talk. When she was found in her room, at age thirteen, she was still in diapers. She was so isolated that she didn't even know how to talk. She sat alone in a room day after day with no one to talk to and not much to look at. She acted as an infant because that's all she had known.…

In hopes to gain a position as a working psychologist, I would first like to discuss Schizophrenia. With Schizophrenia this disorder has casual factors, related symptoms, the areas of the brain it affects, and the neural basis of the disorder. In addition to what I will discuss I will also be reviewing two separate case studies, each on a different disorders. I will be investigative to each problem from the perspective of a bio psychologist. I will define the patient’s diagnosis I will also be relating each case of the cases to the nature-nurture theory. This theory will better help me understand each disorder. I will also be speaking about helpful drug interventions and solutions for each disorder. When I like to talk about the tool of drug intervention, I like to speak about the positive and negative effects that the drugs may have on the individual. Last but not least I will discuss the treatment methods that I have found through research to be effective for both disorders of the disorders.…

anagement accounting practice has developed substantially over the past century, but recent studies suggest that the practice is no longer making the strides that it once did. Unless management accountants take a hard look at the effectiveness of current practice, this situation isn’t likely to improve. In some companies, radical changes are needed to the structure of the finance function, the nature of the interactions management accountants have with other managers and the performance metrics used to guide the function itself.…
