December 16, 2013 Question I. Section A. The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act of 2010 (PPAHA), also known as, The Affordable Care Act, is a health care reform act that was put into effect to make healthcare available to all Americans. If you are already insured, your plan will not be affected unless the plan was put in effect after March 2010. If you are not insured or are self-employed, this act will allow you to be able to purchase your plan through state based subsidies. The act makes it mandatory for the health care to cover 10 health care benefits. Under the Act, you are allowed to stay under your parent’s health insurance until you are 26. You also cannot get denied further coverage from your insurance company if you fall ill. Although this act was put into effect for good reasons, there are also some downsides. If you decide not to get healthcare, you have to pay a fee each month. Although it was stated people would be able to keep their plans, millions were cancelled by the insurance companies. Most are going to be forced to switch to Obamacare unwillingly in order to get insured again.
