Young Canadians Making A Difference

The article I have selected to analyze for this culminating activity can be found here: http://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/1435963-not-too-young-to-make-difference/ 1. The individual involved in this article is a 10-year-old Newmarket resident, Madison McBride.
2. Madison has organized many fundraising events in which raised money is donated to charities. Some events include holding garage sales and opening lemonade stands where raised money were donated to organizations such as Canadian Lung Association. Recently, she has organized a Walk for our Future for youth where thousands of raised money have been donated for breast cancer research.
3. Madison has been very successful with her fundraising events and continues to be. Any amount of money raised is a form of success because that money is very useful when donated to certain organizations or charities. She has event made an impact on her school staff and students. They have held a lasagna luncheon and bake sale and raised up to a total of $500 for Madison’s Walk for the Future cause. She was also invited to speak about her cause at various schools in her region.
4. Although everything we do involves some sort of obstacle, I believe Madison has overcome what many would view to be her greatest obstacle: age. Age is often a huge obstacle for young Canadians when trying to make a difference because not many adults believe they are capable of what many adults lack time and will to do. Madison overcame this and proved to Canadians, and possibly many others, that she was able to hop over that age obstacle and make a difference.
5. The message of this article is that there are no age limits when making a difference. I have learned from this article that this is true because Madison, at a young age of 10, has done so much for her community… and she’s just one person. If such a young Canadian

Raising money can be interesting and beneficial. Once at church we had a fundraiser for our different choirs, to buy more robes and microphones. That week we had three fundraiser on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Monday, we sold baked goods like fresh bread, cookies, cupcakes, mini pies, and muffins. My grandma and I brought the fresh loaves of bread, and everyone else brought what they could. Next, on Wednesday, we had a class on decorating phones cases. The charge was $2 and it was opened to the community. Finally on Friday, it was movie night. The cost was $2 also, $1 for the movie and $1 for popcorn and drink. Women and children's faces that would rather not be smiling. One year we decided to feature the African culture for our fundraising. We put together a fashion show, dance and skit; we also provided food to our guests. Throughout the event, we emphasized the importance of lending a hand to those in need. We had pictures of children in need throughout the hall; we also had ushers that were going around discussing the topic with our guests. I was very impressed by how generous and caring the guests were. Not only were we able to raise $5,000.00 for the cause, but we were able to recover the expenses of the event. This fundraising event was a testament of…

A particular individual by the name of Craig Kielburger truly provoked me to expand my skills in becoming a strong leader. He created a worldwide organization at the age of twelve, called “Free the Children” (now called “We”) which encourages youth to take on local or global issues. In my school, there is a club based on Kielburger's organization which I am currently coordinating. My club focuses on caring for the well-being of others in the community and around the world. We hold a variety of fundraisers such as battery drives, food banks, and coin drives. There, we donate these goods to shelters and charities in our local community. We also give our funds to third-world countries as well. Because of this club, I began to look at the world in a different light. I learned to become more thoughtful in my words and actions by giving more to the community and expecting less from others. Overall, this experience has taught me that I have the potential to create change for the better and to inspire others to take on altruistic actions as…
