Film history follows two distinct paths: the first originating from the Lumiere Brothers’ attempts in capturing everyday reality, and the second, following George Melies’ emphasis on the magical. Let take a closer look at George Melie’s style, producer used the illusion created by the film shot to make things appear or disappear as they want. For example, a trip to the Moon (1902) used that technique a lot. Later on, the film industry also developed German Expressionism, which mostly produce horror movie. The cabinet of Dr. Caligari(1920) and The Mummy(1932) are one of the most successful horror films that represent the that magical style. It turns the creativity of human into reality. Thus, the audiences really enjoy many thrilling scenes in this kind of movie.

The rise of television and various technological innovations have combined to radically alter the way we consume film and other media since the 1970s. The first thing we can see is the cable network. It allows us to watch movie at home, which costs people less money than cinema. Later on, DVD/Streaming was also invented. For example, many websites like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime were created to meet the demand of watching movie at home of people. It allows us to watch our favorite movies anytime we want. In a modern society like this, the demand of entertainment of people is very high, thus, many mobile devices like ipad, smart phones are the good ideas to meet that demand. We now live in the world that we can reach anything we want anywhere. And movie is one of those things.
