Chief of Health Administration Service (HAS) with the Department of Veteran Affairs is the occupation that I am aspiring to achieve. “The Chief of HAS, oversees all HAS programs to include Health Benefits & Administration, Health Information Management (HIMS) and administrative functions at six Community Based Outpatient Clinics” (USA Jobs, 2014). The Chief of HAS is responsible for providing workload, budget and expenditure estimates to top management. “Applying fiscal management principles to budgetary control points under HAS including beneficiary travel, transcription, CBOC contracts and fee basis is another duty” (USA Jobs, 2014). This paper will detail the duties and responsibilities and importance of the Department of Veteran Affairs Chief and Assistant Chief of Health Administration Service.
The Health Administration Service is one of the largest administrative services within the Department of Veteran Affairs. Considerable attention to personnel management, planning, policy and decision-making actions is required by the Chief of HAS. “The Chief represents the facility and serves as a liaison with Regional Counsel on legal matters affecting patient care. They provides advice and assistance and participates closely with the Chief of Staff and members of the clinical services in the orientation of physicians, nurses and residents regarding legal matters, health administration systems, procedures, services and medical records standards (USA Jobs, 2014).” The Chief is responsible for oversight of all (HAS) Programs, oversight of front line staff, ensuring good relations and customer service with Veterans, Veterans ' families and other representatives, and a full range of statistical reporting to management and in support of other services (USA Jobs, 2014).
