The IOC holds additional responsibility as the “keeper” of the Olympic brand, identity and sportsman’s code of ethics and honor. When IOC actions were questioned by corporate sponsors delaying payment, the brand of the Olympic Rings was not enhanced. The rings represent a tradition of good sportsmanship,…
For example, athletes can come up with incentives that can develop them with hard work or cheating.…
Athletes are sometimes prone to get into trouble because of their recognition and the great things they do in their field of play. One hypothesis looks at the athletic environment as a potential cause. See competitive athletics is a very dichotomous environment. On the one hand, you have rules, regulations, etc (Ashbrook online). These are in place to keep the playing field as even as possible, with the hopes of determining the "best" performer (Ashbrook online). On the other hand, we have money and fame, lots of it. How do athletes get money and fame? By being successful at sport. But how do we become successful at sport? Ideally, with hard work and determination. But what if there was an easier way (Ashbrook online)?…
Student athletes vs. NCAA College athletics has grown into an integral part of universities across the nation. It has become an enormous industry that draws in a whopping load of finances to the universities. Many people may ask, where does all of the money go made by ticket sales and school merchandise? School officials will say to fees, athletic equipment, and travel costs. On the other hand; athletes may say, they have no idea.…
Giving a participation trophy to these young athletes for everything they do in life, can teach them that they will get a reward for doing what is required. There shouldn't be a promise of getting a reward at the end for doing what is told. Instead, there should be a reward for doing what isn't told, but is required. Mentioned in "The Great Trophy Debate; Do We Need Participation Awards?" By John…
"If you pay to participate in a sport, the overall quality of the team, equipment, and experience will be better," quote from Murphy Georger. What Georger is saying is that when you pay to participate in a sport everything will be better because the money that people pay to join will be used in a fabulous way. And if he or she pays to participate the money everyone pays can be gathered up and used to help the team succeed. Students should pay to play a school sport because the money can be used to buy good equipment, they can also use the money to pay the coach, and the athletes could use the money to benifit the team.…
Some people claim that it is worth a few bucks to put a smile on someone's face. However, their money can a lot of other emotions too. Some people can get this trophy and say ,"why did I try so hard to get a trophy everyone else gets for standing there ,and doing nothing?" That is someone that is mad. Depression can be caused by the trophies ,for participating in the same sport over and over again. Trophies can make young athletes worry about if everyone gets a trophy," what is the point of trying my best?"Giving trophies can be harmful to the young athletes out there and the programs. Help young athletes…
The subject of sports and participation rewards is a major controversy in today's society. Several kids take part in a sport at some point in their life. When the season is over, rewards will generally be given to the higher level athletes on the team. With only some kids receiving awards, a problem arises with the other kids who feel they deserve one too. This then leads to the question of whether or not all kids who take part in an activity should receive participation awards. Participation awards should not be given to all kids because they will view it as an entitlement, kids may get the wrong impression of themselves, and may then have a hard time accepting defeat and failure.…
Athletes with very little time on their hands are not making money off their beloved job. Over decades, there have been athletes pouring their heart and soul into their sport that they have worked for. For years, the love of the game has gotten almost each and every elite athlete to a university where they can showcase their ability and talent. However, for the Division 1 level it is more or less a business, and your job is to bring in as much profit to your university as you can. Regardless of the business, a true athlete will play the game with a desire to win in their hearts. In recent years there has been controversial question as to which every athlete is thinking. Should student athletes who play a sport get an extra benefit by being paid because they are a college athlete?…
Participation trophies are wasting money in youth organizations. Organizations spend thousands of dollars a year on trophies and metals, that the athletes don't even earn. A lot of…
So, that’s what people would like about being paid for being an athlete. It may seem unfair because they get paid more than any jobs that pay. But, people need to know, athletes also risk their lives.…
School officials should enact a stipend for student athletes who are fully active in the athletic program as well as with exceptional academic standing. A compensation for such athletes is a necessity not just to keep the competition at a steady level but also encourage the students to pursue their degrees in a comfortable manner. Student Athletes deserve a compensation for their determination and commitment to the sport, their success in meeting the expectations academically as well as being rewarded for being the main source of profit for not only their schools but the…
Kids across America all compete in many different kinds of sports. Whether it be soccer, baseball, football, hockey, basketball, track, and many more. From what I have been taught in school, only the winner and second and third would usually receive medals for their accomplishments and success in their certain sport. While I am still encouraging kids to play sports and be active and fit, people should not be rewarding kids for just participating in a sport or even getting last place.…
Student Athletes should not be paid to play sports for colleges. If college athletes were paid to play sports it would take away from pros getting paid to play. Pro Athletes also would not think it is fair because when they were in college they didn't get paid and they were good enough to go pro so they should have gotten paid before anybody.…
If I was ever feeling down, I could look at that medal and immediately have that feeling again. Today, I have so many things that I do that are not very easy. I coach gymnastics, I am in dance, every summer I do a mission project with my church, and then I of course have school. Through gymnastics I have seen things that everybody does a little different. When I see someone achieve something that will lead to bigger things in life, all I can think is “Wow. They should get a medal for achieving that.” I think this because in gymnastics, medals are not earned at the competition. They are earned during practice. So when I see people do something big, and I know that they have been working so hard for it, I think that they should have earned something…
