There was a time when Israel did not have a king. When Israel got their first king, he was wayward and did not always follow the rules set, but he did repent. The next king was closer to God and was chosen by God. He helped build up Israel and passed it on to his son. Following his father’s example, he also helped Israel thrive. These kings were not perfect but they were chosen for the job, and did their best and accomplished much. Israel was destined a have a king. According to Posner Menachem, God told Moses while on Mount Sinai that Israel would have a king in the future. Israel was first lead by prophets and judges. This lasted about 400 years. Samuel, who lived in Ramah, was the prophet at the time when the Israelites decided they wanted a king like other nations. He knew that it was not the right time and told the Israelites, yet they we persistent and continued to demand a king (Menachem). Since Samuel was a prophet, God told him what to do about the demands of the people. He told Samuel to give the people their king.
