Please review these tips before you turn in your final essay:
1. Please review the Scoring Rubric (this is used by all HCC English instructors to grade ENGL 111 essays) and the Essay Editing Worksheet as checklists for your essay. Copy and Paste the Scoring Rubric to the bottom of your essay before turning it in for a grade. Essays turned in without the Scoring Rubric at the bottom will receive -5 points off.
2. Have you headed your essay in MLA format? Please review the model essay at The Purdue Owl MLA website: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ . Essays not headed using MLA format will receive -10 points off.

Include the main point (s) (usually three for a five paragraph essay) you are going to make in your thesis statement (this should be the last sentence in your introductory paragraph).
3. Make your list of three points parallel in your thesis statement (review parallelism). Please see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/623/1/ to review parallelism.
4. Introduce your three topic sentences/points in the same order as presented in your thesis statement.
5. Use transitional words for each new paragraph (first, second, third are simple examples. You should strive to use more sophisticated transitional methods.).
6. Follow your three topic sentences with three to four supporting sentences - if they do not support your topic sentences, delete or revise them. Again, remember to introduce your three reasons in the same order in your three body topic sentences and follow them by three supporting examples - think 3 - 3 – 3: Three (3) points in the thesis statement, three (3) topic sentences, three (3) example sentences for each paragraph.
7. Be sure you restate your three points in your conclusion. Use transition to introduce your conclusion (In conclusion,
