The search for an apartment or a place to stay in a foreign country can be a daunting task. You do not know anything about renting and you do not know where to start looking. Nonetheless, you need to find a place right away because your schooling will start soon. Here are tips on how you can rent an apartment in Japan easily.
The first thing you should know about renting an apartment in Japan is the deposit. Usually, the owner of the property will ask 3 months deposit from you and you should have the money. There is no point in negotiating with landlords if you are not prepared to hand your deposit.
The second thing is preparing your key money. Key money is different from your deposit but this is an added expense as well. They key money is a gift that you will give the owner of the property as a symbol of thanks for letting you stay.
The third thing about renting an apartment in Japan is to decide what type of place you want to stay. It will definitely be easier if you hire a real estate agent to help you but this will be an additional expense too. In fact, some realtors will ask you to pay them a non-refundable 1-month rental fee.
The fourth thing about renting an apartment in Japan is to decide whether you want it furnished or not. Knowing what you need in an apartment will make the search easier. Having furniture will be more convenient but the rental fee is a lot more expensive.
