Drowsy Driving affects everyone. Many people have filed lawsuits against drowsy drivers, including 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan. An under appreciated driving hazard is the lack of sleep. In fact, many people are cavalier about driving while fatigued. Distractions affect drivers of all ages, and are one of the leading causes of accidents. I did not think that this was as serious as it sounded until I started driving myself. I noticed that when I talked to my mother while driving I sometimes got enthused, excited or agitated and often swerved or swayed into the next lane or onto the shoulder. I had to learn to talk but keep my focus on the road. Another distraction for me is eating while driving, I tend to follow my food with my eyes and drive with one hand. I can just imagine what I would do if I dropped something on my lap like hot chocolate.…

Considering I was a state legislature, I would be very passionate about the drunk driving laws within our state. You see I see now real difference in murder, lets say aiming a weapon at someone an shooting them and fatally killing them vs. drinking a fifth of whiskey purposely choosing to get behind the wheel of a car and killing an innocent person. Where the difference comes into play in my opinion many people have drove a motor vehicle while drinking and never shot anyone, therefore less likely to judge there own self in that fashion. The current vehicular homicide law ranges from a class B to D felony and ranges from three (3) to ten (10) years in jail. The aggravated vehicular homicide law is a class A felony and comes with host of factors that would have to be applicable ("LexisNexis® Custom Solution: Tennessee Code Research Tool," n.d.).…

At some point in our lives we have heard a news report that involved a drunk driver and an innocent victim. Usually these incidents are accidents where a person driving under the influence runs a red light or jumps a curb, hitting, and more often than not, killing an innocent person. These injuries and deaths are all easily preventable. In the United States, over 20% of all motor vehicle related deaths are caused by an impaired driver. Which is why this crime continues to be a national problem that takes the lives of thousands of people every year (Hanson). Way too often the victims of these tragedies are young teens or children. Why people drive drunk is a question that people have been trying to answer for a long time. There have been suggestions to implement tougher DUI laws, which seems like a great idea. Unfortunately, people seem to only look at the downside rather than what tougher laws would do for the safety of the public.…

As popularity in mobile devices increase, the amount of car accidents has increased over the past years. And even though New Hampshire is making the effort to end distracted driving and car accidents, the law against using a handheld device is pretty difficult to enforce. Every person using their phones cannot be stopped and spoken to, this means many people still do it and have the risk of getting in an accident. New Hampshire does have many provisions when it comes to distracted driving. NH has a law in place that makes using handheld devices, such as cell phones, while driving punishable by law. While drivers can use hands-free devices, like speaker phone and a cars Bluetooth system, car accidents have decreased. New Hampshire strives to strongly enforce laws in hopes of decreasing the amount of accidents influenced by mobile device usage.…
