Flag Symbolism

One last way the flag is used for tribute is when we fly the flag at half-staffed. When flown at half-staffed we are showing tribute to a major event, mourning, remembrance and heroes who have fought for our country. For example, on May 15th of every year, Memorial Day, the United States tells everyone to lower their flag to half-staff in honor of the nation’s battle heroes. Another example is 9/11. After the tragic incident, many firefighters hung the American flag at the scene to show that we are untied as one. Still to this day we fly the flag at half-staff on September 11th to show remembrance for the innocent lives that were taken during the tragedy.
