Flamma Veritatis Monologue
I wake up covered with hay. I feel something crisp and hard on top of my chest. A small amulet rests, gleaming in the light. I have a red ruby implanted on it, with fire running and dancing through the crystal. It feels warm to the touch. A small engraving reading "Flamma Veritatis" is written on the back.
While attempting to sit up, I get an extreme headache. Eyes blinking, I see the amulets fire glow brighter. I get visions of betrayal, Minerva using a program to replicate me and Pocket Wellfair's betrayal of me to Morl's side. I want to believe that these visions are false, but I know I'm just fooling myself. I attempt to sit up again, but all strength has deserted me. Cold darkness crashes onto me, the amulet my only source of light, heat, and hope.
As I awaken the

A soft sound of metal on metal rings through the soft forest I find myself in. Slime spews out of the centipede and covers my shirt, but I power on shoving my sword through its gut. It slowly begins to turn to dust.
Out of its eye sockets, two slime green orbs fall. Upon touching my sword they glow brightly and begin to melt into my sword. A new large vein of green intertwines with the old fire red veins of my sword. Slowly it begins to shake. A new item composed of a green emerald beset into a silvery red arm guard with spikes dripping with green toxins radiating from inside the emerald. Etched on with extremely fine writing it the words "viridi pugno" in golden writing is visible on the sides. As I try it on, I notice that it fits me perfectly, molding perfectly to my every touch.
Taking a quick look around, I notice that there is a trail of slime leading straight to a dark shack that is being patrolled by other strange creatures. As I approach carefully to the shack I get ambushed by a three-headed dog, a Cerberus. It lunges towards me, death in its eyes. My sword raises itself to parry, like a flopping

Behind the beautiful steely blue Hope Diamond lies a cruel and often bloody history, a history that is full of mystery and intriguing stories. This ornate diamond has changed hands many times throughout its long past. The most interesting part of this is the fact that it is said that many of its owners have met with a gruesome fate. It is because of this occurrence that there is an alleged curse behind the precious gem, whether true or not. As stated by Richard Kurin, “[the curse] is only one small piece of a long and lustrous story…” (Kurin). From its supposed origins in an ancient Indian statue, through the hands of Royalty, and on to the ultra-rich, the Hope Diamond leaves a fascinating yet often brutal mark on many of those in its path.…

The cuts on Little Red’s cheeks stung and dripped small drops of blood down her face. Suddenly she heard a door being opened, but she couldn’t see who it was because of the blindfold over her eyes. She heard a “Swoosh” and the sound of a blade hitting flesh. Then another. Then she felt a warm liquid spray onto either side of her.…

The summer before eighth grade, the music studio and I got intimate for the first time. I was 12 years old and I got my first solo piece. The moment my hands touched the brand new music sheet and speech, my chest lifted up as my teeth grew in sight with pride. I was going to perform “Heart” from the Broadway musical, Damn Yankees. The level of excitement brewing within me exploded as my anticipation excelled for the upcoming performance.…

A revolting stench is being emitted in waves from the mutated human. The sight in front of me is growling like some sort of beast foaming at the mouth and licking its lips. What ever hair is left on its head was hanging greasy and long, lined with blood. The face, permanently etched with a painful grimace. As the eyes of the creature roll up and down my body scrutinizing every detail, I felt exposed and cringed as all the muscles in my body tightened.…

I was considering putting on the necklace at times, but would chicken out, wondering if it were a trick and something really bad would happen. E.g. getting sucked into eternity. (I watch too many scary movies.) Then I gathered up all the courage I could find in my small, slim body, and picked the necklace up. I decided to examine it first, making sure it wasn’t a bomb or something. It had 1,000’s of beautiful diamonds all over it, and in the middle was a blue, light sapphire glowing. I put it around my small neck, being a little skeptical. It had an automatic latch, and at first was VERY heavy, but then instantly felt as light as a feather. All of a sudden my head was spinning, wait, NO, the room was spinning. A rainbow-tornado formed around me and a little pixie appeared. Not like a fairy-pixie, but a teddy-bear like pixie from books I had read as a kid. She was holding a small Atlas Moth box. She looked up at me and said,” Hi! I’m Crystal.” I was looking at her with my mouth as wide open as a whale. She jumped up and reconnected my lower lip with my upper lip. Then she said,” Um, here”, she handed me the box,” um, well are you gonna open it or not?” I looked down at the box, debating whether I should have listened to her or not. But I did. My mom's genes run in my blood, so. I opened the box and a swarm or beautiful Atlas Moths came out, spinning around me. Making me more dizzy and nauseous than I already was. I was amazed, looking at all of them, sparkling as they flew. Then….they all swarmed around me. Should I have listened to…

The blur of blue caught my eye and I watch it bellow down the street relentlessly swallowing people and children, and then fading into the hazy distance. Another breed of the same species comes careening down the opposite side of the street, it’s screeching tires skid across the miserable cracks of cement, suddenly halting to a dramatic stop. The metallic fiend exhales and shudders, impatiently waiting to select the next poor soul for consumption. Its mouth opens wide with a deep sounding hiss, beckoning me forward with a breath of steamy air. The air is stale and it forces my eyes to cry. To escape I attempt to rush forward but a jolt of force sends me crashing into a fortified wall of steel. The tribute I am carrying in my left hand is instantly relinquished as a result of the crash and I scramble on the floor for a minute before retrieving it. I solemnly stare at the crumpled dollar bill I hold between my fingers for I know this spoiled hell of a machine will never accept such lowly currency!…

As my feet echo through the vast white corridor halls, my mind echos throughout my skull. In my sleeve I can feel the light of the single feather, warming my hand, and the softness of it tickling my palm. I know without looking at it, that the colors are swirling and shifting with my touch. It is a thing of beauty, but even more so, it is a sign. This one single feather, is a sign of something to come; of what I know not.…

“Be nice Jonah,” my father’s voice echoes through my mind, “After all, she is your sister.” Yeah, but an annoying one at that I thought. As my feet were weary, I felt a razor edge, I use my feet and my keen eyes to scrutinize the razor edge, turns out, the sharp edge was actually a decayed bone. The yellow, white bone with the sharp trowel edge was lying below my feet. I tried to use my feet to pick up the bone, but no luck yet. I tried again after stretching my legs and still no luck. I tried once more and yes it happened. I lifted it up to my arm, grasped it, and used it to get me out of these chains. I started carving the chain. A simpleton like Montresor leaving me here to die, impossible. I…
