Flawed Characters In Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountain
In the year 1999, an author by the name of Annie Proulx published a collection of short stories under the title of Close Range: Wyoming Stories to describe the hardships of living in the harsh lands of Wyoming. There are eleven short stories in this publication, but throughout this reception paper, the main focus will be on Brokeback Mountain with mentioning of other stories that will also play a role in Proulx’s image of Wyoming. The stories are primarily about flawed characters roughing their way through the harsh winters and terrible living conditions of Wyoming farmlands. In the story, Brokeback Mountain, two men are afraid to admit to their homosexual desire towards one another because of the fear of what may happen to them if people found
out. As time progressed from the publication of Open Range to the present day the reviews have not changed greatly but there are differences from the time of publication, when the movie came out, and now.
