Project Report
Project Title: FlightDeck

Executive Summary/Summary of Work
This report describes the deliverables from the FlightDeck project, as conducted in the INB345 - Mobile Devices unit in Semester 1, 2011 at QUT. This report provides an in-depth insight into the activities conducted by the team members and specifically what was delivered throughout the project.
The project centres around FlightDeck: an innovative application to provide timely information to any traveller at any airport globally. The application was selected for its broad reach across aspects of design, development and business, and these three factors were the specific focus for the FlightDeck project.

5). This process enables the designer to explore the “design space” (combination of possible design ideas for a product) and deliver a design that fits users, which may then be transferred into a real design through development and testing, realising the design (Benyon, Turner & Turner, 2005, p. 41). In the FlightDeck project, this exploration was scoped down to the design and development of a single prototype; this afforded team members an experience into the design of a mobile application.
Interaction design is an important part of this project, as this skill is a requirement in making any system a success for the users and the development group. To this end, this project has taken the approach of designing then developing the system, using the guidance of Benyon, Turner & Turner (2005). In this section, an analysis of users, their needs and wants and the systemʼs conceptual design will be described. This process defined the development of the prototype described in Section 3.0.

This list of functionality is what a user should expect from FlightDeck at go live once the complete cycle of design, development and testing has been conducted and completely finalised. Due to the fact that this project focused on one cycle through design and development, a smaller set of functionality was delivered in prototype format. From this, the finalised set of functionality was developed to guide prototype software engineering.
2.5.4 - Application Interface Design Considerations
In addition to the focus on the flow and connection between activities, the design of the interface and interface elements was considered closely.
The application interface is designed to be efficient and user friendly for mobile and tablet users. Care was taken to not exclude different types of mobile devices; this allows a greater reach to end consumers. Although this is true, the layout of size of buttons and text is designed to have maximum efficiency for devices of a screen size no smaller than 2.5 inches. Devices with smaller screens may need to use a zoom function to read fine

To accomplish the project in the manner we set forward we needed to achieve a fine-grained set of requirements and specifications during multiple sessions of business and software analysis. This means we need to have all the items needed for development figured out and all assumptions handled ahead of development as a result of these sessions. We managed to set up mock actual sessions of requirements gathering like that of a actual business analysts. During these sessions we would go back and forth with problems from the project and come up with viable solutions and answers to these problems, documenting them as we proceeded. Then came the user interface, for this we put together ideas about what we would like to see in the user interface and how customers would interact with it. Next we considered the development process and how the structure and layout of classes and other items should and could look. For this we created diagrams to assist development efforts such as the collaboration diagrams and class diagrams. We decided on collaboration diagrams versus sequence diagrams in the…
