Flying Travel Monologue
Flying. Dancing. Tumbling. Falling. My head slams down onto my keyboard. The sound waking other drifters as the sound of clicking and scratching continues. What used to be nails against chalkboards is now grafite against wood. As paper and pencil clash for hours. Their rhythm filling the stiff air. I cough, embarrassed that I had let myself fall asleep during work hours. Turning toward my computer I begin to type. “July 13 2*** , By Marley Hughes. Following up on the terrible and highly unfortunate accident on March 7 2*** when Arline Gypsy went down…….” Looking towards my window I watched a flock of doves sail past. Their tiny chests puffed out like turkey’s and their wings like swans they let the wind carry them. And I began to think, “What if I had been on that plane?” , “You’d die.” came a reply, sharp and cold. …show more content…
“Back to work daydreamer.” Childishly, I sneer. Facing my screen I begin to type again. “Niece of victim, Connie Newton, found that with help from agents that it was no accident.” Once more my mind drifted to a place where walls grew high and marvelous. In the center there sits a woman her wig white and sophisticated. “Tell me Ms. Hughes, who has committed this awful crime?” From a sitting position I’ll rise. Facing the judge and jury I’d begin, “See this man.” I’d produced the photo, “It was him.” With a cheer the crowd will rise and together we’d take down the mastermind. We’d face off and he’ll say….. “You’ll die.” Suddenly, I’m jarred back into reality; to grey walls and dull eyes. This time she stands over me a load of papers in her hands. “Back to work daydreamer.” After slamming the sheets onto my desk she walks away with a puff of air. Sighing, I take a break from the computer. Turning toward the pile I take the first of many down and begin to write. Scratch, Scratch, SCratCH, SCRatCH, SCRATCH,

I lost track of time, but all I knew was that the daylight was disappearing. After taking the back roads we had finally approached the Wirraree hospital. The town was awfully quiet, so quiet that I could hear my pounding heart out in the open, making me fall in to great suspicion that I was in some sort of trap ready to be captured. Corrie and I were still in the car with the engine running. I didn’t want to get out just yet, unsure of why, but I knew there was soon to be a reason. Turning my head, I noticed three large security cameras in view. Without thinking clearly, I immediately swerved out of sight into a small dark alleyway not knowing it had a dead end. We hid in there for a few minutes, so I could swiftly think about how I could get Corrie out of the car and safely into the hospital without being seen. Before I really even had a minute to consider my…

Grant Wiggins recalls the outcome of a trial. He says that he was not there, but he knew what the verdict would be. He pictures the courtroom, the judge, and the attorneys. He pictures his aunt, Tante Lou, sitting beside the defendant’s godmother, Miss Emma, both watching the proceedings with solemn rigidity. Grant can picture the back of Jefferson’s close-cropped black head as he sits at the defendant’s table.…

“How could I describe such anguish to someone I just met? I can’t even quite grasp the idea myself!” I thought, but Death continued to stare at me, looking directly and unwaveringly into my eyes. I could do nothing but stare back blankly, so he began to speak…

I awoke today with the light streaming into my room and hearing the birds chirping in the distance. As I regained my conscience, I smelled the mold and felt damp room conditions all around me that imprisoned me. It reminded me of what would have happened only in a nightmare. It was only yesterday that Corey, Nurse, Hale and I had gone to help the accused women. So many times I felt that I could win the battle, yet just as many times I could feel the rope slipping through my fingers.…

Her curls slip through his fingers and before he knows it, he is the one trapped between a killer and a brick wall. There is a moment of silence in the grand library, all is still but the tick-tock of an intricate clock hanging above the mantle and the harsh cocking of a handgun. Slowly and gracefully, without taking her eyes or pistol off of the man, the woman picks up a small velvet bag from the shadows pooling on the hardwood…

The police station was quiet, that was until I barged through the glass doors. A serviceman grabbed me, as I nearly fall on my face. “ I murdered her, she's gone and I did it, arrest me!” I bellowed , adrenalin pushed through me, pulsing in and out of my veins, and that's where I faint. The police man wakes me up “ Jannet we are aware, but we have news for you.”…

You could hear all kinds of screams, the police rushing to the people, the men calling and asking not to bring their wives and children, and it was a great deal of confusion during more than one hour. You could hear the racing of the people on the stairs, the cries of children and suddenly there was a profound silence in our building. All the noise had ceased, there was a deep silence. Lia has fallen asleep in my arms, and I couldn't move in our hideout, and so the hours passed slowly. Every hour until my hiding place, I could hear the chimes of the wall clock that was in the living room of our apartment.…

It was an oddly quiet Sunday morning in the middle of December. Clear skies, forests and beautiful snow-capped mountains dominated the views from my front porch. The temperature was mild, one of those days you could wear a thin sweater and be a little chilly. There were no birds chirping or butterflies fluttering, as they had all left to the south to find a more suitable environment for them or died. I had missed this type of day when you could relax in the peacefulness of the quiet morning…

The drunkards go home, throwing beer bottles behind their left shoulders: alcohol stains spell out initials of people they used to love and the name of that casino down the road. This is how mornings begin in the city: knee, shoulder, and right knuckle skinned in half-hearted fights; fingertips hypothermic blue, just for show. The alleyways are filled with tired eyes and clusters of folded yellow flowers in unfeeling hands. Glass shatters like ocean waves, like my mind when time stopped ticking forward. We set our watches back by an hour, by two, by ten and a half.…

It was a simple beginning to a beautiful day in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The dry morning air brought a wealth of warmth to my tired skin. "Today is a day of opportunity," I thought. I would hopefully be entering the work force after a long battle with unemployment. I was excited because my days were filled with nothing but boredom and my mind was occupied with nothing but despair. Hopefully, today would be the day that I left my past behind me.…
