There are many issues in the U.S. we tend to ignore, whether it may be cognitive or physical, food insecurity is one of the few issues that is ever mentioned until recent years. Over recent years the term food insecurity, which is a concept used in order to address the global problem of food issues, has gained national exposure thanks to a documentary directed Kristi Jacobson titled A Place at the Table. The film addressed many issues our future generations will face as the population gets bigger and inflation of food prices continues to raise. The documentary explained food insecurity as an issue that occurs in a household where the residents may not know where their next meal may be coming from. According to the USDA webpage about 14.5 percent (out of 17.6 million) of U.S. household were food insecure at some time during 2012 (USDA.gov). That number is dramatically smaller compared to the 795 million people in the world who do not have enough food to meet their daily caloric needs. Low food security are those households that are able to receive the minimum of resources needed to survive on a daily basis, forcing many of them to eat as little as possible which does not allow them to meet their daily caloric needs. 8.8 percent (10.7 million) of U.S. households in 2012 rely on receiving food from either federal programs or from the community (USDA.gov). Very low food security are households that one or more members of the household have had their eating habits changed due to little to no money. By raising awareness in the United States, much of the families can identify the issue that may be going on. Though public awareness is low due to food insecurity not receiving much media attention, the nation should be able to target the public’s needs by providing education to the community of what meals can be provided in order to maintain a healthy diet. Education can also provide these households knowledge on building a community garden where the people of the town learn ways on how they can grow their own food. With the nation working collectively, food insecurity can be significantly lowered and the term can be a thing of the past as long as community programs are able to support those families in
