Culture, religion and health conditions have an impact on food choices in our setting. there are many children within the nursery who have different dietary requirements all for different reasons. An example of this would be one of our children in Pre-School, have a child with an allergy to tomatoes and dairy so she would have soya yoghurt unlike the other children and would avoid all foods with tomato in. Children could be Vegetarians due to the beliefs and religion of their parents/carers therefore we would have a meat alternative such as quorn chicken instead of regular chicken.…
The Advertisers article, “Children Fail the Eating Test”, published April 7, 2014 debates a very “hot” talked about topic in today’s society. The article discusses the lack of healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables consumed by the average child aged 9 to 13 years old and what are supposedly the biggest reasons for this apparent lifestyle choice. Throughout the article there are very few perceptions taken into account, leading to a particularly bias article that may catch the attention many parents/caregivers.…
Ideally meal times should be an enjoyable occasion, which can be used to talk and catch up on the day’s events. For some families meal times can become a battleground where parents are continuously attempting to get their children to eat a good range of food. As a result of this children can sometimes develop food phobias. We need to watch out for children who are becoming distressed by food or worried about what they eat. It is important to stay relaxed during meal times. To help keep the atmosphere relaxed families could try to present food in a different way or involve the children in the preparation. Children may be more likely to try new foods if they have helped to prepare the meal.…
In order to better understand how food reveals these different truths about our food preferences, Allen says, “it is good to consider that you are the product of multiple food histories” (Harvard Press, 2012). These histories help us to consciously and unconsciously shape our food preferences. Our own personal experiences as we grow and develop in our lives cultural environment, biological history, and evolutionary history all play a huge part in this mental process. Our family and the culture that we grow up in helps to shape what is acceptable and not acceptable food choices.…
I can not easily try new types of food. Actually, I do not like to eat something that I have never tasted before. However, I had an experience with my family at Shake Shack restaurant. My family challenged me to try a cheeseburger. I thought a lot because it is a kind of junk food and I do not like that kind of food. Then I accepted the challenge to change my idea about food. My first experience in eating cheeseburger was amazing.…
Some children have a difficult time dealing with stress, so they use food to comfort them when they feel unsure of things. Like adults, they too use food as a comfort when they feel, bored, anxious or angry. Children in the past did not have to worry so much about parents being divorced and remarried, mothers that worked long hours or fathers that traveled for most of the week. Today 's economy has put financial strain on parents and children cannot help but to hear and feel the results of these tough economic times. The children of this generation are all too familiar with all of these situations. Each child has to contend with different factors in their lives and they too turn to food as a…

Some children have food allergies which means that they cannot tolerate certain foods and they may become very ill which may lead to going into anaphylactic shock if they eat certain foods. can involve dietary requirements, eg, may eat different type of food, and not able to eat food such as certain meats, they may not fall into our traditional expectations. Children’s diets today are too unhealthy and do not provide good nutrition. In fact, the percent of obesity in children 6 to 19 tripled in the U.S. between 1980-2000, according to the article, “So Long Sweets”. Which brings me to two reasons why children’s diets should be regulated, this is because too much sugar is unhealthy and poor nutrition contributes to obesity.…
“There is a commonly held view that eating disorders are a lifestyle choice. Eating disorders are actually serious and often fatal illnesses that cause severe disturbances to a person’s eating behaviors. Obsessions with food, body weight, and shape may also signal an eating disorder.” say the National Institute of Mental Health. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder.…
Traditions has been changed since the western food had reached to the GCC, according to Topics-mag.com (2007) "Many people feel fast food plays a big role in changing the traditional diets of cultures worldwide".
