Once the boxer becomes more experienced they can move onto more complex defensive techniques, like ducking, weaving catching, parrying, countering and slipping punches. Generally you should focus on the opponent’s hands and eyes to see if they are going to swing but more advanced boxers will also notice their opponents twisting their legs and hips as I indicator for a punch on the way. As a beginner the easiest way to counter a punch is to black it then throw one back straightaway. The easiest way to counter a jab is to either get inside of it or on top of it. Getting on the inside of it you can turn the glove protecting your face to knock it out the way then snap a quick jab back immediately. Getting on top of it you can knock it down and almost in the same motion roll a punch straight back at them or if you have knocked it down and they are unbalanced enough can come back with a straight power punch to do more
