The Duties of a forensic investigator will be different and that depends on the area where a detective work in and the types of crimes detective specifically investigate. Forensic investigator will be in charge of collecting evidence at any crime scene and perform spot experiments on certain part of evidence.
The following are some of the responsibilities in which forensic investigator may come across as a forensic investigator: o Packing and labelling evidence from a Crime Scene.
o Arranging and collecting DNA samples for lab testing if available.
o Gathering fingerprints from weapons and surfaces at a crime scene
o Planning and figuring out the Locating traced evidence for further examination
o Organizing evidence for easy reference in such a way that it will can be readily accessible at any time.
o Capturing pictures of a Crime Scene
o Safely shifting gathered evidence from a crime scene to the laboratory.
o Noticing reports during the time of collection of evidence.

Forensic Investigator will be responsible for taking evidence to a laboratory for review, and he/she may work in the laboratory as well if he is not needed at the scene of a crime occurred.
Forensic investigators typically work all days until investigation report got submitted, but there are times when investigators may need to work long hours on an extensive case. Investigators work with a team of other technicians trying to solve a case, and they often have to take on extra duties to get the work done for any investigation. As long as investigator have a clear understanding of criminal investigation, he/she should have no trouble managing all of the responsibilities needed of forensic
investigators.
If forensic investigator finds no known witnesses to any crime, then he/she need to work with prosecutors. For instance, if human remains are found dumped in a canyon and have decayed to the limit where they are not able to be recognized, forensic investigators use DNA from the body, examine to determine who the person was. With the evidence he/she have to narrow down possibilities and firmly decide the person was a male or a female.
Two major common crimes that are identified in the forensic science laboratory are drug-related crimes and sexual crimes. It is in the crime laboratory that the chemical check-up of an unidentified substance found from a suspect is identified to be cocaine, marijuana or any controlled substance. This is used as proof in court to prove that illegal drugs are possessed by a person.
Forensic toxicology can determine if a person was drunk or if anyone was poisoned to death. Person responsible for any physical or sexual assault can be determined with DNA test recovered from a victim’s body. This evidence is most commonly used in court to put sexual offenders and child molesters into prison and to allow innocent people free.
Weapons testing, or ballistics, is another part of forensic Science in which Forensic investigators use their skills and knowledge of ammunition and study the impact of a bullet to finalise how many times firing was shot, where a shooter was standing when he or she fired, and even if a victim was shot at point blank.
Forensics is also important in identifying the culprits of various cybercrimes. Databases are searched, IP addresses are traced and documents are recovered by computer forensic specialists to determine who was responsible for stealing funds electronically. This evidence is used to prove a suspect’s guilt for major white collar crime, such as Ponzi schemes, embezzlement and fraud.
