As for the video Scientific Racism the Eugenics of Social Darwinism I have to say that I still do not comprehend the racist beliefs of people.
It was shocking to learn that many thought that if the “dark” races could not be civilized; they should be exterminated. Why couldn’t white people understand that not everyone had to look and behave like them? Sometimes, looking into the past truly makes us meditate. Besides this, I was especially shocked by how people in Southern and Central India were being treated. Thousands of them were starving, some sold their kids in exchange of food, many of them committed suicide, and some of them were forced into cannibalism. It is awful that they had to go through this because of the British
ruling.
At last but not least, the video Murder of a President. I was fascinated by this documentary. It is sad that J. Garfield did not have the opportunity to do more as a President. In my opinion, he was a remarkable man. I love how he believed in racial equality, and how, despite being the President, he still made time for his family. I was also moved by the support he had during his presidential term, and even after his death. I teared up a little when hearing that a vast amount of people sent letters to the White House wishing for his recovery. The story of him being moved to New Jersey was touching as well. As for Charles Guiteau, I have to admit that, despite his mental condition, he was right on one thing: Dr. Bliss was also guilty of the President’s death. If he had not been obstinate, the President’s condition might have improved. It is disappointing that this never happen. I completely understand how Garfield’s family and supporters must have felt after losing such an exceptional man.
